Looking too far ahead?

Assuming we can find some quality in the O-Lineman that will replace the 3 starters we'll lose after this year, I look for JC to be simply unbelievable next year.

While I was concerned about some of the comments I had read (can JC really be a full-time, featured back, etc) I've had a change of heart on this.  He has been playing and learning without having to take the full-time pounding of many great running backs at this stage in their college careers (Cedric Benson, Adrian Peterson, etc.).  If anything, I see a Ricky Williams-type junior year for JC - not in style, but in breakout year numbers.  Ricky was mostly a fullback his freshman year and then split a lot of time with Shon Mitchell and Priest Holmes.  Finally as a junior, he was the man.  The results.... 1,893 yards on 279 carries, 25 total TDs.  And that was for a 4-7 team in "Lack-a-dick's" final year.  With the surrounding cast coming back, JC should go off!!!

In the meantime, I'll ease up on my preference to see more JC right now.

Agree
JC is going to win two Heismans.

Well, maybe not. But the breakout you're predicting is coming.

Couldn't agree more. He's just amazing.

Also
Interesting perspective.  It's easy to get caught up in the JC excitement and forget that this is only his sophomore year.  I guess my question though is SHOULD we assume that we can find quality O-Linemen to replace the 3 starters leaving this year?  I haven't exactly kept up with the depth chart in that part of the team.  What do the prospects look like?

The prospects from the 07 class
Wow is all I can really say.  Losing Matt Nadar is going to sting a little, but we have 5 other guys coming in, including Tray Allen.  Oh by the way, the 8th best recruit in the country.  This o-line class coming in is considered to be the best O-line class in more than a decade.  Not just for Texas but of any school.  So, yeah.  There's some meat.
Hoom 'em. 'Nuff said.

Starting
Yeah, but those are freshman.  Who's actually going to start?

2007 starting O Line
I share your concern.  If you look at the depth chart, Dallas Griffin is the most likely starter at center as he is the primary back-up this year.  Though he will be a senior and has gotten valuable experience this season, he is "only" 280 pounds.  This definitely concerns me, although venter is the one position of the line that can get away with less weight.  I am quite confident in Adam Ulatoski replacing Blalock at right tackle.  Look at all of the experience he is getting this year, and he doing a wonderful job.  He will only get bigger and better (should top out at over 300 pounds next summer).  The concern is also at left guard, replacing Kasey Studdard.  THe most likely replacements will be either Charlie Tanner or Chris Hall (both 6'4" 295 pounds).  I am a little concerned at their being less than 300 pounds, but they both have steadily gained weight sinse coming to the 40 acres and should conceivably top the scales over 300 pounds by next summer, with Mad Dog's help.  In addition, they are both seeing action in just about every game this season, which will help the experience side of things.  Another intriguing person would be Buck Burnette, whoc is already topping 310 pounds sinse arriving in January.  Tony Hills will continue to be a stalwart at left tackle next year, especially if he cuts down on the ill-timed holding penalties (like he did against whiny Boomer Sooner).  Anybody else have thoughts?

Ulatoski
is a good start.  I can't imagine he can get any bigger.  I'm sure Mad Dog will prove me wrong.  Allen may come in and start immediately.  I'm thinking that re-stocking the O-Line may be a non-issue.  We ARE Texas, remember.  Rebuilding sucks, lets just reload.

oh yeah
and Webb should have another off season to get even bigger.  Scary.

Exactly who do we play???
Next year's schedule should be pretty easy. OU is done.

I know this is not completely true but, (you have to love the word but)our guys will be much bigger than most everyone they line up against. Why cant they just fire across the line and knock the snot out of the other guy????

I am not worried at all about next year.

Who the hell makes you worry?

TBA
TCU
at Central Florida
RICE
KANSAS STATE
vs. Oklahoma (Dallas)^
at Iowa State
at Baylor
NEBRASKA
at Oklahoma State
TEXAS TECH
at Texas A&M

We get Tech and Nebraska at home, we don't have to play Missouri, and TCU is, well...  TCU.  The only team that might give us a challenge is the Aggies, only because it's in B/CS.  But do the Aggies have a D-Line that can take advantage of a rebuilding Texas O-Line?  Not if Darnell is still the Defensive Coordinator!

TBA
Probably some bald-headed step-child whooping Boy like Texas State, Sam Houston State (possibly with the ex-Chalie Chuckwagon aka Rhett "Blowmar", or don't forget the esteemed Lousiana Lafiette.  Another possibility is this year's favorite Middle Tenessee State

You do think it will be from the Sun Belt Trio?
North Texas, Louisiana-Lafayette, and New Mexico State that we usually open with?
