USC Got Robbed in MNC

According to an article on Yahoo! Sports, instant replay should have overturned two calls in the national title game:

Since when did Matt Leinart start writing for Yahoo! Sports?

While I admit there are issues with the replay system and errors are sometimes made, I can't stand the thought of USC alums still trying to paint a picture that they were the better team.

Waaaaaaah!
Like they would have stopped us from scoring from there. They did -so- well stopping VY all night.

It's a mea culpa...
...for printing all those dreadful things about Reggie Bush.

I'm not reaching for my kleenex just yet. You have to win with whatever circumstances are handed to you, whether that's a blunder on the field or a blunder in the booth. Anyway, the replay officials didn't make Keith Rivers commit an incidental face-mask on 4th and MNC for Texas on their last drive.

All right, now I do need a tissue.

that was 3rd down
wasn't it?  i don't remember having a heart attack, which surely would have happened if we'd been stopped on 4th.

I think it was 4th
But it was so blatent that I wasn't worried about it.  Jan. was really that long ago?  Wow.

And, um, yeah.  Any 'Poligists that want to crown USC for last year should be reminded of the interception by Drew Kelson.  It was a blatant miss.  Just as the Vince knee down was.  The difference is that Texas still would have scored had they reversed the call.

If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable.

4th down
wouldn't that have been 4th down and Texas would have had to kick a field goal?

by joey on Nov 10, 2006 2:43 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

pretty sure that...
...Texas were going for it on 4th down in Texas territory. The moment stands out because I have rarely whipsawed so fast from fear to joy to fear so quickly.

so close...
...I was only wrong about the player and the down. Damn those facts!

It was still painful to watch.

Attack victims
rarely pick out the perps in a line up. The searing pain of the incident distorts their visual memory.

I've gathered that much from Law and Order.

Replay also would have overturned
an sure interception by Drew Kelson to kill a USC scoring drive.

It all evens out in my book.  Media needs to quit whining.

In the end, it's still 41-38.

The argument on the Bush lateral kills me
Do they even look up the rules?

It wasn't a forward pass and the "apparent" trajectory of the ball has nothing to do with it. Not a single NCAA rule mentions or describes how an official should be looking at the way a ball moves in the air.
Its about where the ball stikes an animate object on the field (i.e. the WR's hand who Bush tried to pitch to). It hit his hand behind the spot of the pass, therefore it is not a forward pass.

How an airborne ball looks in slow motion has nothing, nada, zippo to do with the rules -- and the replay officials can not overturn a call based on phantom trajectories.

This guy and the alums crying need to STFU.

Kudos to the USC alumni who have gotten past this and can see that the officials didn't do either team any favors.

exactly
thats like saying every fumble that goes out of a players hands in the forward direction is a forward lateral.

A replay against N.D.
I guess these people forgot about the "PUSH" bush against N.D. Should have usc been playing against Texas anyways ??

2005 MNC Officating
That article was bullshit.  The Reggie Bush deal was too close to be overturned, no two ways about it.  VY's knee is another issue, but that play still gives UT a first down at the USC 12 at that point in the game. Kelson's pick would have give Texas a shot at a 23-7 halftime lead (instead of 16-10), had that been reviewed.

The only thing i'm trying to say is that the officating was horrible in that game, but I believe it affected both teams equally and nobody has any business stressing about it now.

The fact is that instant replay hasn't made the split second, close calls that officials on the field can't be blamed for if they get it wrong initially.

Time to move on
The media I'm sure has plenty to cover, or uncover if you're Yahoo Sports. Whats the point? the game has been played and it won't change a thing.

I've moved on, there too many other issues to focus on with this season.

Exactly
Agreed, time to move on.

Yahoo Sports seems to enjoy covering all things USC (good or bad, I might add), from that story to the whole Reggie Bush fiasco.  Do they have informants on campus digging up old records on players and doing interviews or what?
