Texas' BCS Title Chances

Bruce Feldman, ESPN The Magazine college football writer had this to say when asked what Texas needs to happen to make the BCS Championship game:

Bruce Feldman: (1:18 PM ET ) OK, OSU has to whip Michigan. UF, Tenn and Auburn need to all lose once and Rutgers beat L'ville and then lose to Pitt or WVU. Also itd be nice if A&M won all its games before UT smashed them. Now I doubt an unbeaten Rutgers would be ahead of UT and I'm not sure if Auburn or Tenn would either but it would help them if they werent in the mix.

Seems about right
Still a lot that's gotta happen.

The other thing that probably needs to happen is the Horns need to absolutely murder everyone they play. To emerge atop the one-loss scram, Texas needs to jump up to #2 in the human polls. That won't happen if we dance with danger every game.

Too conservative
UM will not get the rematch.  They will not have a championship replay a game that just happened and people do not want two teams from the same conference playing for the championship.
I dont think Tenn, Auburn or Rutgers can make the jump.
so we need OSU to win out and UF and UL to lose one.  Not that improbable.

I agree
We're 4th in the human polls and with a UL loss and Michigan loss, we move up to 2nd (which is 2/3 of the BCS).  If our SOS makes any kind of jump at all in the last two weeks we could be fine.  The only thing you left out was the Pac-10, which is what could prove to be our undoing.  Cal is getting a lot of respect right now, and if SC beats them and then Notre Dame, we're finished.  Even if Cal wins out, I think we might have problems.

ummm
So if USC wins out they don't jump Texas?  Much as I think Texas is the better team, I think USC would make the jump.

Forgot about them
I am just assuming they don't win out.  What about ND?  If they win out there will be a lot of golden domers screaming that they deserve it.

Remaining Games
If we don't kick butt the rest of the way it won't matter.

Still gotta win
As it's already been said, we still have to win the rest of our games or all of this doesn't even matter.

I think USC could jump us if they win out, but I don't see that happening--I think they'll drop at least one more game, hopefully against Oregon (at which point we would then want them to win the rest of their games).

Also, I think we should pull for Arkansas to make it to the SEC championship over Auburn--I can't see a team making it to the national title game if they can't even make it to they're own conference title game.  Here's a question though: what if Arkansas wins out and beats Florida in the SEC championship?  Do they have a legitimate argument to play for the national title?

Hook'em, bitches.

Hope Arkansas loses to LSU
They'd still go to the SEC title game, but would have 2 losses

nebraska in 2001
made the MNC game after not winning the big XII north.  in fact after getting destroyed by colorado in their last regular season game.

It's a shame
No team that doesn't win its conference deserves to play for a national title under the current BCS format.  Hence why I would be pissed if Texas doesn't get in ahead of Auburn team that doesn't win it's own division.

Of course, the other recent "greatest team ever" got destroyed by Kansas State before getting a spot in the national title game in 2003.
