Longhorn Draft Update

Longhorns drafted thus far, through six rounds. Overall draft position in parentheses.

Vincent Young 1st Round 3rd pick(3) Tennessee
Michael Huff 1st Round 7th pick(7) Oakland
Cedric Griffin 2nd Round 16th Pick(48) Minnesota
David Thomas 3rd Round 22nd Pick(86) New England
Jonathan Scott 5th Round 8th Pick(141) Detroit

The big surprise as far as Longhorns go is Rodrique Wright not being drafted yet. His reputation as someone not willing to work hard is clearly costing him.

226th overall
With the 18th pick in the 7th round, Miami has selected Wright.

Other Longhorns
Remember, Wright and Dibbles a year ago were two 'Horns along with Huff who made an announcement that they were returning for their senior season.  Wright's work ethic must truly have been a concern for him to have fallen from possible late 1st rounder to mid 7th round.

Dibbles is less of a surprise, but is among severall senior contributors who have gone undrafeted with just about 30 picks left.

OG Will Allen is likely the best chance of being the seventh 'Horn drafted, but here are some other names near and dear to your hearts:

LB Aaron Harris, FB Ahmard Hall, OG Mike Garcia, WR Brian Carter, DS Nick Schroeder, P/PK Richmond McGee, K David Pino, OT Will Winston, and of course QB Matt Nordgren.

Pino
Is that the guy who missed an EXTRA POINT and a field goal in the championship game?

Aaron Harris
Now there's someone that would be a steal on a free agent contract.  Hope someone invites him to camp.

Good fit
Nick Saban can get Wright to reach his potential. Wright's got great size and some legit talent, but he can't take things for granted. I hope he busts his ass and carves out a career for himself.

A nice draft for the Horns overall.

Go Titans!

Statesman report:
"Tracy Lartigue, Wright's agent, said the defensive tackle has a torn right rotator cuff, and played with the injury his senior season. Lartigue said Wright plans to undergo surgery in the next two weeks." [statesman.com]

That's a BIG deal
He could miss most if not all of the 2006 season. Arthroscopic rehab alone is about 6 months a little less if its an "open procedure".

Without getting too technical- Rotator cuff tear is a bit of a catch-all phrase. It could be a Labral tear or it could be posterior instability. Regardless its a long rehab either way.

That's too bad the kid has got some real talent. I was surprised that he went so late. But I gue we now know why.

Fight On!
