Ah, Ramonce. Why?

Stay connected for news and updates

Overheard at a pecan farm north of Austin...

The Dude: Dude.
Nihilist: [on the phone] Who is this?
The Dude: Dude. The bag man, man. Where do you want us to go?
Nihilist: Us?
The Dude: [to Walter] Shit!
[to Nihilist]
The Dude: Uh. Yeah, uh. Me and, uh, the driver. I'm not handling the money, driving the car and talking on the phone all at the same time.

Now that that's over, on to the crux of my dilema.

I'm struggling with this Ramonce thing.  How should I feel about the situation?

On the one hand, Ramonce was an absolute idiot for not only hanging out with this particular crowd, but also leaving room for interpreting this the way most have.  He has continually screwed up the last 6 months or so and has alienated his coach and many fans.

However, and this is a big however, he was an integral part of the 2005 National Championship team and showed great promise as an athlete.  It's hard for me to turn my back on a Longhorn because of some idiot choices.  It's not like he's OJ.  He's RT.  Maybe the weed was his, maybe he is being set up.  We won't know until all of the facts are on the table.  Right now, all of this is supposition.  As Longhorn fans, we should support him and hope that the situation is resolved in a fair manner.  If it turns out it was his and/or he was involved, I hope the law gets him.  If not, I wish him the best and hope he is cleared of all charges.  I don't think we should berate him based on conjecture.

Points I want to clarify:

1)    If guilty, he should get jail time.  If not, let it go.
2)    He should be off the team for good.  He has had too many chances and messed them up.  Mack runs a clean program and doesn't need to jeopardize that on one misguided player.
3)    Let the other sites make fun of him for his mistakes.  I take pride in the fact that I'm a Longhorn, and also take pride in the fact that we are for the most part a class organization and school.  Let's not bring ourselves to the level of a&m or OU.

Those are my thoughts.  I'm sure some of you disagree, but we're still Longhorns.  So is Ramonce (for now).  I believe we should treat him as such.
