Dominance continued

Ask any Division 1 coach in the US this question: "Which three states are the best states in the country for recruiting?".  The response you will get will be pretty much the same from every one.  Texas will be somewhere in the top three.  Being the flagship university for that state, it kind of explains why the University of Texas has been so good of late, not to overshadow the importance of Mack Brown.  But to expect dominance at the level that Texas is experiencing is something completely different.  Can we expect to stay in the top 10, 5 or better for several years to come?  I say, yes.  Not because of ego, but because the writing is on the wall.  No one comes through Texas and cherry picks talent, but us.

Yesterday, Rivals.com listed their updated top 50 in state high school football players.  Much to my surprise, there was a mix up at the top.  Ryan Mallett is no longer the Golden Boy of Texas.  Enter in, John Chiles.  Yes, the John Chiles that committed to Texas early.  But the dominance doesn't stop at the top.  Texas holds 17 commitments from in state talent.  Of those 17 -all- are in the top 50.  Including 6 of the top 10 and 13 of the top 25.  It's also interesting to note that Texas has 6 of the top 7 Offensive lineman in the state as well, including the #3 overall player in Tray Allen.

Commitment - Position - Rivals Rank

John Chiles - ATH - 1
Tray Allen - OL - 3
Curtis Brown - WR - 4
*(Richetti Jones) - DE - 6
Michael Huey - OL - 7
Keenan Robinson - LB - 8
*(Lennon Creer) - RB - 9
Andre Jones - DT - 10
Malcolm Williams - WR - 11
Aundre McGaskey - OL - 13
Cody Johnson - RB - 14
Kyle Hix - OL - 16
Matt Nader - OL - 20
Ben Wells - DB - 21
Russell Carter - DE - 22
Earl Thomas - ATH - 27
Foswhitt Whittaker - RB - 37
Jerrod Gooch - OL - 44
Ahmard Howard - TE - 48

  • Richetti Jones has still not committed, but most believe he will select Texas.  We'll see.
  • Lennon Creer is also believed to be leaning toward Texas, however, there is less certainty than Richetti.
As awiggo stated earlier, "It's a good time to be a Longhorn Fan" is just too much of an understatement.

Oh, that's... that's-that's great. The guy who's dirty dancing with his niece is going to tell the guy in the thirty-six hundred dollar suit how to run the business. Come on.
