What to make of Texas "Fab five (four)"?

2004

Barnes had cast his rod and was reeling some major catches on his line (yes, fishing season is upon us).
They were like some mythical band of superheroes that would take Texas basketball to the next level.
Each guy was the type of player that only programs like Duke, NC, Kansas and Arizona usually nabbed - and Barnes had a whole group of them.
The names; Lamarcus Alrdridge, Daniel Gibson, Dion Dowell, Mike Williams and the token Aggyism "hidden gem" Connor Atchley.

Fast forward to spring of 2006.
Dion Dowell - transferred for lack of playing time. Barnes didn't have a need for guys that can jump real high without the ball.

Mike Williams - transferred because he saw game film of himself playing. Sounds like he'll go the D1aa or D2 route.

Connor Atchley - Some speculate he's a saboteur sent by the Aggies or Sooners in an effort to take down the program from inside. Others believe that he blackmailed Barnes with compromising pictures in exchange for a scholarship. He apparently can shoot a good outside ball, but it's only when he's literally out-side on a playground by himself.

Daniel Gibson - he can be spectacular and painful to watch all in the same game. He has the most potential of all the Horn players, but has yet to tap those abilities. If he leaves he'll be playing in the NBDL or Europe. With is heart set on playing PG this might be the best option.

LaMarcus Aldridge - He could be the next Chris Bosh or another sugary big man like Chris Mihm. Only time will tell. Some feel its just a matter of him perfecting his shot, while others believe he's too soft in the paint. I think it's a little of both. He'll probably be playing in my city of Chicago, so I can't dog him too much. We might see each other at the country club.

TJ Ford was at Texas as long-as or longer than some of these guys.
So why do I feel like TJ contributed more than this entire group collectively? Why do I feel like they got a free ride? I'll root for TJ to the end of his career, but I'm indifferent to the Fab Five.
I'm already to see the next bunch.
