Sooner's New Offensive Coordinator

There was an article in the AAS that has kind of been bothering me lately:

http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/sports/stories/other/07/27bohls.html

It is a short article, but in summary OU's new offensive coordinator is coming from Northwestern, which like all small schools in big conferences, has to be creative to put points on the board. Almost everything said about him gives me the chills (a la 65-13) -
aggressive, take chances, antithesis of his predecessor, more formations and be more creative in strategy.

He's likely to move Bomar under center more often or roll him out on bootlegs or use him on called runs.

He's likely to split out 6-foot-7-inch tight end Jermaine Gresham to get a mismatch.

Expect Peterson to be emphasized more.

Did OU get...
... a new Offensive Line from Northwestern too?

Texas DB's...
are also all tall, fast and athletic, so not sure how much of a mis-match Gresham would be.  I won't be surprised if J-Mike has a better day than Jermaine in October.

granted
but before I read about this guy, I felt a lot better about the OU game.  That is all I am saying.

As a Northwestern fan
and ticket holder I would say Wilson's results were mixed.

2000 was his best year when Damian Anderson and Kustov were at their peak. Coincidentally they had a stellar offensive line that season -- and decent defense with Napolean Harris.

Anderson was considered a dark horse for the Heisman in 2001, but the offensive line couldn't get it done for him. The offensive production was a roller coaster ride from weak to weak, then finally spurting by the end of season.

The thing about Wilson is that he relies on talent, just like everyone else -- and he uses the pass to set up the run in his style offense.
Do OU fans honestly think Bomar is going to be setting up Peterson?

It also sounds like OU will be using the I formation more and some pro sets. Why wouldn't they with Peterson?
That isn't Wilson's game though -- and until I see him run something other than the spread, I'll reserve my worries.

He's been the O-line coach at OU for the past few seasons. How good could he be?

I certainly hope...
they use Bomar more on rollouts and bootlegs. "Mr. Bomar, meet Mr. Robison and Mr. Crowder."
That's just sick.

Don't forget the blitz from the LB's
I have this nice warm feeling that Bomar is going to get hit harder than he did last year.  Our D-line is going to be great.

It's going to be a good year.
