Mike Leach is Weird

Okay, so a friend of mine manages Dirty Martins. For those unfamiliar, its an old-school burger joint on campus. Well, Mack Brown came in today and was shooting the breeze with my buddy, Jesse.

Jesse is a Tech alumni, so he asked Mack if he knew Mike Leach, and if so, was he 'weird.'

"He's... different...very eccentric."

Apparently he also followed the Grateful Dead for a few years and took a liking to LSD. Maybe he had a wicked flash-back in Fort Worth, because I still can't figure out how in the hell you only put up three points.

Anyway, a little random, yet diary post-worthy.

Rumors

Maybe RedBlooded can clear this up as he seems to follow Tech pretty closely...but I remember hearing all sorts of rumors of alcoholism surrounding Leach, especially when he first arrived at Tech. Allegedly, he showed up at some booster club functions or Teck fundraisers a little less than fully functional and the administration took issue with him. Not sure if there's any truth to this, but every time I see the guy on TV, he just looks like hell and when he's interviewed, he always sounds like he's half in the bag.

I have no idea about alcoholism or LSD, but there is something just a little off about him.

I still remember

that interview with Leach where he bought the pirate sword. He was trying to equate some strange pirate fencing technique to his offense. That was when I knew that he wasn't exactly in the middle of sociology's bell curve.

as weird as he is

he's also a good coach and a very smart man. The guy has a law degree (not sure where from, though).

He reminds me of that kid from high school who was extremely smart, but was also kind of weird and goofy, and never really applied himself.

Leach

Never really applied himself? I guess being a coach of a D-I football program doesn't count as applying oneself. I mean, come on. It's only LUBBOCK. How hard could it be?
