Observations
Let the hype begin for next weeks game with tOSU. It's also the last game I get to watch before I go TAD to the Philippines.
Some of my other observations from my entire day in front of my TV:
- As expected, tOSU had a handful with Wolfe today and gave up 171 yards rushing to him. Unfortantely, it didn't have trouble with the rest of the NIU offense. It would be really nice to watch JC run it down the throat of the tOSU defense next week. It'll make 'em strong and give them the defensive experience of failure.
- JC should definately be getting a majority of the carries (at least from what I saw today), he looked quite a bit better than Selvin. After reading some of the notes from fall camp that you guys have put out, I expected Selvin to play better.
- Colt didn't look too bad today, but I'm interested to see what he can do with a pass rush in his face. That being said, I'd prefer to see the O-line keep him clean and that'll be a big key to the game next week. Any D-I QB can operate without a pass rush. I don't want to see Snead next week, he's a talented kid and didn't play that bad (2 of his 4 incompletions were drops, including the INT), but Colt definately looks more comfortable out there right now.
- The defense was sick today, granted, it's just North Texas, but 95 total yards isn't bad no matter who you're playing. Of course, 80 of those yards came after the D fell asleep for a series to open the second half. I think there were only two series in which UNT didn't go 3 and out. Lots of hard hits too, the UNT backfield is going home with some bruises.
- The dropped passes (at least 5) really stood out today. None of that next week.
- Anyone check out the Cal-Tennessee game? I'd like to know if Cal is that bad or Tennessee is that good. After that game, I'm not sure what to think. Only time will tell.
- Is it me, or was OU a little out of sync right now. Paul Thompson looked like he was a little rusty today, granted, he's not that great to begin with. He'd better not shake off that rust anytime soon, there's nothing I love more than watching doubt creep into the hearts of the Sooner faithful. AP had about 220 of their 370 yards on offense and saved their asses.
- What the hell is wrong with ESPN's pick 'em league, those fools kept changing my picks and confidance levels any time I wanted to edit them (Friday prior to gameday). I check back again today for results and it reset my picks AGAIN. Guess I'll have to figure that out before next week. Did anyone else have this issue? As a consulation, I went 16-3 ATS on Yahoo's pick 'em, but those always involve the ranked teams (minus Miami and FSU) and a lot of those were easy picks this week.
- I contend that ND is overrated and did even before the GT game today. If Tech would have been smart enough to throw to Calvin Johnson in the second half and toned down the penalties (1 of which set up the winning TD), they would have easily won this game. The pistol was pointed at the foot and they (GT) beat themselves. Any team with a strong D-line that can pressure BQ consistantly will have a chance against Notre Dame. There's no way they beat USC at the end of the year and go unbeaten, but then again we all said that last year and they came close.
- PB and AW, I've been reading your blog for a year now and love your work. I'd expect the excellent coverage and analysis I crave to continue while I'm rotting in Manila for the rest of the college football season.

More JC
I dream of JC setting up at the flanker position and going over the middle and drawing Linebacker coverage, Beat the safeties in the open field and off the the races.
