Sorry Troy, you are no Vince
Smith looked just awful...I guess the heisman has never a great indicator of talent, more a press coverage award.
If I am an NFL GM I draft the LSU kid way before anybody else I saw in the bowl games. I don't predict great NFL careers for Smith, Quinn, or even Leak.
VY is still the player of the decade, which will really start to dawn on the league next year.

Smith
I would have voted for Smith for the Heisman, he deserved it this year, but I have heard people say he is better than VY partly because he won the trophy. Not a chance.
He seems like a good kid and a great college level player, but based on last night's performance I've got doubts he will be a great or even good NFL QB - but I hope he proves me wrong.
Russell at LSU has the arm and the body to make it as an older-style immobile NFL QB. As far as Smith goes this might be a good thing in the long run, now maybe he drops down the draft board to a better team he could help. He would be an upgrade for the Bears..

I wasnt speaking
and krell, I'm not saying Smith is even on the same level as VY is but im pretty sure if VY had the shitty protection Smith had last night things might have been similar.

Not likely
Not to mention Vince can run til morning comes before Troy even thinks about leaving the pocket.

Doesnt need protection?

I'm not saying that's the reason he scrambled

A Heisman Winner
Almost every year, the Heisman winner gets overshadowed in his bowl game (except maybe leinart on the 05 champ game).
Troy Smith has one bad one, so what? Bad timing it happened tonight. But I agree with Dub, who was more deserving based on the 12 game regular season?

Player of the decade
Vince didn't go undefeated did he?
Vince had his struggles too. Remember 2004 when he used to split time with other QB?
Troy may not flourish in the NFL, he isn't as tall as Vince. But he has just as good an arm, if not more accurate, he can run like Vince, and he was a huge big game QB overall....he was a great college QB.

Which other QB?
Although spliting time is a bad word. He started over half the season and was noticeably better than Mock.
And no, VY didn't go undefeated, he went 30-2 (I believe). That's damn close to undefeated.

People Like to ignore Penn State '05
And, Troy Smith can't run like Vince. He may be more accurate, but he can't run like Vince. He also can't win championships like Vince.

I'll go one better.
But VY is simply the best college football player I have personally ever seen. That spans 25 years of watching college football, and I am not from Texas and did not go to Texas, no homer here I just watched this kid for 3 years here in Austin.
Comments on Bush - he is a great scatback, his maximum potential with luck is to have Marshall Faulk's career - not shabby but not close to a great QB's impact.
On Smith - I think you lost some credibility saying that Smith can run like VY, that is not even worth arguing. IMHO Smith has a nice accurate arm, not as strong as VY but strong enough, more accurate from the pocket but less so on the run and is fairly mobile - although he did not show it with NFL-style athletes last night. I think it will all add up to a average NFL QB with a possibility to be a little above or below average.
With the accuracy that will come in the next few years VY will be the most feared player in the NFL. Super Bowls will ensue if he stays healthy.

Player of the Decade in the NFL?
I believe they gave that award to Tom Brady after his 3rd Super Bowl.

If nothing else,
With T.Brady, Manning, Brees, Romo, Rivers, Young, Leinart, Cutler, Rothlesburger (sp?), and possibly E.Manning, A.Smith and J.Campbell, we could be witnessing a possible high point of QB play throughout the league.
...now if only the Texans could blindly stumble across such a QB.

Texans need more help than QB

Completely agree
I do agree that a GM is an extremely important/underappreciated position that ultimately decides the direction of the team. Look at the personnel decisions by AJ Smith in SD and Scott Peoli (sp?) in NE. I doubt either of these teams struggle anytime in the near future.
