Greg Monroe, the #1 high school basketball player in the country, gave verbal commitment to Georgetown on Friday. Texas was one of the last five schools in the running for the 5-star power forward and had Monroe scheduled for a visit to Austin in a couple of weeks.

The Horns had an outside shot, but everyone thought Durant was going to sign with North Carolina and we all know how that turned out.

Don't worry though hoops fans. Texas is still in good position to sign two highly rated players in their 2008 class. Tyreke Evans, J'Covan Brown, Jeff Taylor, Wesley Witherspoon, among others have Texas high on their lists.
