Texas #18 in Coaches Poll
USA Today Poll Texas probably still has a chance to finish in the top 10 if the current trend of upsets continue. I also believe that Oklahoma will lose a game they shouldn't and will not play for the BCS championship.

how the hell
is ou ranked ahead of lsu, oregon, and west virginia? did they forget that they lost to colorado?
but that's the coaches for you. notorious for just moving teams up and down based exclusively on when a team loses. the AP voters are a little better, but they don't matter for the bcs at all.
and how freaking weird is it to BC #2 and south florida #3? i mean, both teams are legit, but #2 and #3? this year is ridiculous.

OU higher than LSU
is just plain STUPID. Look at resume, look at whatever you like, how can OU be higher than LSU?!

My hatred of OU
mixed with my general belief in Murphy's Law produces a nice paranoid cocktail on this one.
When OU went down to Colorado a few weeks ago, I thought it was certainly over for them. You can lose to Kentucky on the road, or Florida, or Cal, and still win a national title, but you cannot lose to Colorado and get into the BCS championship game, right?
Well yes, in theory. In practice, however, if the 10 teams in front of them keep losing, then they can easily be gifted a title birth.
I don't see OU losing again. They have the easiest schedule of all the remaining contenders, and while the computers may hate their one loss, the polls are likely to have them #1 by December if everyone in front of them loses, and that will be enough for them to get in.
God I hate Oklahoma.

OU will lose one more game maybe more
Oklahoma is not that good. Their secondary is average and tech will give them major fits and so will Okie State. Sam Bradford is good but it seems like he has all day to throw. The key to beating OU is make Sam Bradford win the game.
He is an excellent game manager but not someone who can put the team on his back and carry them like Colt, VY, Troy Smith, etc. Thats why we lost. We didn't put the pressure on him and force him to win the game.
Thats really the key to beating OU every year. Their qbs are game managers and whenever we lose to them we never force their qb to beat us. Examples, Nate Hybl, Josh Heupel, Jason White. The two times we have beaten them we took away the run game and got a lead on them and paul thompson and bomar withered under pressure.

Looking at next week...
Here's some possible losses for teams ranked ahead of us:
#1 Ohio State hosts Michigan State (5-2).
#2 South Florida plays at Rutgers (4-2).
#5 LSU hosts #18 Auburn. Obviously, one will lose, but hopefully it's LSU.
#8 Kentucky hosts #14 Florida. One will lose of course. I'll go for Florida so UK can get 2 losses.
#10 California plays at UCLA, who's somehow 3-0 in conference.
#13 USC plays at Notre Dame. I'm only putting this out there because USC has looked horrible.
#15 Missouri hosts #22 Texas Tech. I'm rooting for Tech. If they win, they might jump over us temporarily, but we still get to play them. What should the over/under be set at? I'll say about 80.
#15 Kansas (they're tied with Mizzou) plays at Colorado (4-3).

I never thought these words
would ever be grouped together in this particular way, but maybe I'll try to scalp a ticket to the Rutgers game. A rare chance to see a #2 ranked team in these parts.

hmmm......
this is an intriguing idea.....

Damn it!!!
I actually started looking for tickets, and I found out the game is on Thursday, and I can't make it Thursday.
Why can't the Big East at least pretend its a real football conference and play on Saturday?

damn, I'll be in NJ the following week for work

They play West Virginia the following Saturday
that one might be worth checking out as well. I get so starved for live football here, I actually consider going to Columbia games.

tOSU has a brutal closing schedule
They've got a resurgent Michigan State and Illinois at home, should have no trouble with slumping Wisconsin, but still have to travel to Happy Valley and Ann Arbor.
It would be a fitting finish to Lloyd Carr's career to finally beat the Buckeyes in his last game at the Big House.
No way Ohio State finishes this season undefeated.
That leaves us with the nightmare (for the college football fan) scenario of BC and USF as the lone undefeateds. It'll be interesting to see the BCS standings. Will this be the year a one-loss team jumps an undefeated team to get to the BCS CG?

nightmare?
i would love to see BC vs. South Florida in the national championship game. it probably wouldn't be the greatest-played game and wouldn't have a ton of superstars, but it would be so emotional and intense. and the beauty of college football is the rawness of it all. if you love extremely high quality football with the best athletes in the world, well, there's always the NFL.
i'm probably in the minority here, but this is something i'd love to see (especially in a topsy-turvy year like this).

It just wouldn't be a good game
You have two top-notch QB's, and not a whole lot of talent at the rest of the positions. Maybe I'm wrong, and we'd get another instant classic like Texas 41 USC 38, but I'm not seeing it.

The SEC clowns would never stop complaining
Those SEC homers would be yelling how can you leave off [insert 2 or 1 loss SEC team here]? They would hate that a no tradition school and a school that is famous for one play would duke it out for a national title.
Even if it happens i just wouldn't be able to call them national champs in my head. I would say they are but they just wouldn't feel like national champs.

And they have a GOOD case
Let BC or SF play the schedule that LSU played, and see how well they can do. I know this is all hypothetical, but I really think LSU and Florida are both better than the current top 4. BC vs. SF for national championship really really sucks.
by Cyrus on Oct 14, 2007 3:51 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah it does
But thats the name of the game now. You play the schedule and win every game. There is nothing more that BC and USF can do. It would be boring and i proably wouldn't have much interest but they won out and the other teams didn't. USC, Cal, LSU, OU and Florida have only themselves to blame.

A fitting finish for Carr
Would be a "face raping" by Tressel when Carr's team was favored.

Re:
Oh, I'm afraid the Texas Tech defense will be quite operational when the Missouri game arrives.

Nice
Now we just need Leach to get his broken arm replaced by a cybernetic device. Then he scars his lungs from all the dust in the Lubbock air and needs a certain special suit to survive. Finally, Leach's son becomes a highly touted QB, spurns the Red and Black, heading instead to Texas under the tutelage of his mentor, Texas OC/QB coach Major Applewhite (who now has a beard and wears a brown robe in public). Said son rises to the starter position, setting up a titanic collision when Texas roles into Lubbock for a battle of unbeaten teams in November. Texas is down by five with :04 to go on Tech's 20. Tech brings a blitz, and a linebacker is barreling towards Leach's son, when suddenly, Leach himself comes out of nowhere (having run onto the field) to deliver a block which breaks his already frail body. His son then throws a touchdown pass with time expired, and immediately drops to his knees in his fallen father's aid. They exchange a final few touching words before Leach dies. Texas declines whatever penalty is incurred, and goes on to collapse in the BCS title game when Leach's son finds out that he's dating his sister during halftime.

#19 in AP
The sad thing is, both LSU and Oregon would beat any of the 4 teams ranked ahead of them - tOSU, BC, USF or OU. I'd love to see them play in the BCS Championship Game. Perhaps all four of those teams will get another loss, and I'll get my wish. But whatever happens, this is definetly one of the wackiest seasons ever in college football.
