Crap....Cobb done for season
Jo Duarte of the Houston Chronicle reports that Antwan Cobb is having surgery on his left ACL, which he injured during the ISU game. This leaves Texas scary thin at fullback until Tiemann gets back. He says it will be Irby and Redwine getting most time at FB.

Not a big deal
but he was a nice amenity to have when he was needed. He has good hands and is a decent blocker. I'm not excited about using a TE (Irby) or a former LB (Redwine) as our 1st string fullback.
His father
who is a man, and is 40, thought it was a big deal.
Gotta Think
That Mack's absurd avoidance of scoring there at the end contributed to his injury. (Preface: I was only listening to the game on webcast of the radio feed.) According to what Craig Way's narration, Texas was going out of it's way to not even kick a field goal by taking one or two delay of game penalties and then obviously planning to run straight up the gut with Cobb on the play where he got injured.
Doesn't this make a point that one should try to be classy and not run up the score, but that one should still run some semblance of a real offense? Or that one should only have an all walk-on team out if you're gonna do what Mack did?
I'm just thinking that by completely shutting things down the way he does, Mack is putting his players' health behind not giving off a poor impression,

that is a bit of a streach
If you want to take that logic, when should not put Chiles in as QB, because everyone knows it is going to be a zone read.
Well

I dont think that is true
I don't think we told them not to gain any yards, otherwise we would have just taken a knee. The players were still all excusing at 100%, trying to show the coaches that they deserve a look for more playing time.
Cobb
Surely wasn't giving anything but a Herculean effort. Guy was flying through defenders. It probably increased his risk for injury slightly, if only because the defense knew what was going to happen, but it's no more dangerous than, say, Wisconsin's offense. Which is basically that, with a bigger Cobb.

I disagree
If he had taken a knee, you'd probably be saying that he should have given the young players an opportunity to gain experience. You can't say that Mack should have known that there would be injuries if he called running plays up the middle.
Unfortunately these things just happen in the game of football, it can be on any play.
Sorry, last bit cut off
and that maybe there's some truth to the Spurrier/Leach model of late game, blowout coaching. Don't shutdown evrything, because asking players to not play the way they've trained, there at a greater risk for injury.
