Time for the Bulls to stop stealing our Hook 'Em Sign...!

Ok, enough is enough. I'm real happy to see another Florida football factory doing well (NOT), but most of all, I'm getting really tired of seeing the USF fans taking the Hook 'Em sign in vain. At what point does The University step in and put an end to this travesty...? It must be a protected trademark or service mark of some sort...everything else remotely tied to The University is. Any thoughts out there...anyone else tied of seeing our sacred handsign misused and abused...?

I didn't qualify to be an adoptive parent,'cause we don't get the games out here in the English countryside. But I'm still pulling for all of y'all...!

I really don't care because deep down everybody knows that symbol represents U.T. Its just the way it is. I get more upset when people do that shit upside down, i.e. every team we play.

Let them "steal it" they may win a national title but they will never be in the pantheon of great college football programs and universities. Its South Florida for god sakes. Sounds like UTSA or a community college.

Actually,

Texas sued the city of For Worth because the longhorn they used for "Cow Town" looked too much like the Texas Longhorn. Both schools have filed their own lawsuits that the outside world saw as petty or stupid, but were required to hold on to their trademark. The hand symbol is not trademarked and cannot be trademarked.

I stand corrected.

The hand symbol is trademarked, but I don't see how you can sue someone for holding up the hand symbol. Now, if they printed it on a shirt, that would be different. I don't know.

Meh

It's annoying, I completely agree, but there really is nothing anyone can do about it. As far as I know there is no way to trademark a hand sign... "hey, you put your fingers in the air the way I claimed! Pay me royalties!"

But I agree that we have bigger battles to fight on that front, ie. people turning our 'horns down.

I already wrote a diary and emailed Deloss. I told him we should play them. They probably won't stay this good, so maybe he will schedule them? Never know. He did write back and tell me he had no idea they had taken our hand sign.

Yeah,

But UT can only do something if the University of Southern Florida or its athletics program deliberately promotes the use of the hand sign. There's no way you can be sued or in trouble in any way for throwing up the horns regardless of who you are. Unless of course you're in the athletic department.

I don't care if they are number one schedule, them now. This is a joke. Come up with your own tradition and ideas.

USF fans (and coach) using the "hook 'em" hand sign makes them look absolutely foolish. They are one hit wonders who do not belong even in the top 10. Plus, they have to live in crappy Florida and get inferior educations.

USF is here to stay. It maybe a shit satelite or directional school but this is the start of something. Plus, since they play in the Big Least its baiscally a two or three game season for them. 'Ville, WVU, and Rutgers.

USF commercial

Watching the USF @ Rutgers game, they just showed a USF commercial with the "Hook'Em" hand sign in it. Their mascot was throwing it up with fans behind him doing it, and a big foam Hook'Em hand. Clear trademark infringement?
