Looking at the Bowl Picture...
I don't understand why so many people are killing themselves rooting for OU to lose. NEWSFLASH THEY WON'T LOSE TWICE!!!
It seems as if our best bet in getting to a BCS game, is for OU to win out, convincingly, and get to the National Championship game. The Fiesta Bowl will likely get the automatic Big XII tie-in.
Two Issues:
Missouri: They are hitting the veeery difficult portion of their schedule as they visit teams like Colorado, Kansas St. and Kansas... Not to mention, the fact that they place Texas Tech this weekend. At least two more losses are probable moreso than possible.
Texas: Oh yes, since there is no more Vince Young, we are generally due for a late season let down. I'm a little on the optimistic side on this issue I guess. Truth be told, I think we are got our let down early in the year with the loss to K-State. Texas Tech doesn't beat Texas anymore, at least not in Austin. Oklahoma State just doesn't do it at all. I am impressed with OK-State, however. If Texas wins that game, in Stillwater, I do not see them losing their next two. Coach Fran will lose to texas at home, BIG! And sadly, my 3rd Grade teacher's husband will be fired. tear
These are just my thoughts and opinions looking at this thing going forward.

Agreed
I hate to say it but, we need blOw U to win out big time and make it to the NC. I believe that we also need Kansas to lose at least two also (they play an incredibly easy schedule other than Mizzou). If those were to happen and we win out, we might have a chance at the Fiesta.
On second thought though, what will that do to our recruiting satuts if OU makes it to NC (and probably win beings that they will play OSU)? It will be bad for us recruting wise and program wise. We cant allow them to get another NC over us.

Not so sure...
I'm not so sure that tOSU will roll over for OU in the NC, should that match-up arise. I don't think it will, but let it be known anyway that it doesn't take much to beat OU. Just a coaching staff that doesn't have its head up its ass about pass coverage. Maybe we were compensating for something (LB's!!!), but our defense in that game was what would come out of Stoops' mouth if you asked him "What kind of defense is sure to fail against your offense this year?" Playing the corners ump-teen yards off of their receivers made short routes gimmes. That allowed Bradford the freshman robot to throw to his first option on almost every play. That made our pass-rush a waste of time and energy, as even when Beasley is running down Bradford's throat, completely unblocked, he still gets the throw off. I think Tressel and his staff have a pretty solid defense, so it wouldn't surprise me to see tOSU win that game after a terrible performance from Bradford. If you make a freshman read coverages and check down receivers, they will throw interceptions. Period. Why didn't we do this? I will never know.

I agree.
I really don't think that OU would win against OSU either. In fact, if OU gets to the championship game, I fully expect them to get their butts kicked. AGAIN. I agree with why you argue that OU beat us this year.
About the point TEXASFIGHT made about OU and recruiting. That really isn't the concern I have. After all, "We're Texas" and really our campus, facilities, and city sell itself. Our biggest problem is the recruits we are going after aren't as talented as they used to be. Mack Brown has people lining up in their junior years to come to school, but these players are not as high quality as he was once getting. He really needs to get back into the compeition of recruiting blue chip recruits like he did with Simms, Redding, and VY.

One thing
If OU goes to the national championship, then Fiesta does not have to pick a big 12 team, the only automatic is the big 12 champion if they do not go to the BCS championship.

But I am with you on OU
until they lose one, then we need them to lose two.

We're not going to a BCS game
I've already come to terms with that.
My call?
Pacific Life Holiday Bowl - Texas vs. USC
(Yes that does mean SC drops another game)

Eh, you could really be right.
But I'd like to think youre wrong, about Texas at least.

Don't Root for OU
I would rather Texas go to the Poinsettia bowl than root for OU.
by Loisaida Horn on Oct 19, 2007 1:13 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Ok then don't root.
Just then they can lose two more games and maybe we sneak in. Either way we need OU to either do really good or suck.

Haven't you figured it out yet?
OU does whatever we need them not to do.
If we need them to win, they screw us over and lose. If we need them to lose...well, don't make me laugh.
This is what hated rivals tend to do. OU will lose exactly one more game, which is precisely what we can't have happen.

Back in 2003
Think about 2003, when Oklahoma lost to K-State in the Big XII championship. They were on their way to the national championship game, but then K-State took the other conference pick from the Big XII with their win over OU in the championship game. Texas, who would have gone to a BCS game that year was relegated to the Holiday Bowl where it lost to Washington State. So to answer your question, I'm pretty sure a conference can only have two representatives in th BCS at most.

Re:
OU can lose another, thereby eliminating them from the MNC, but then go on to win the Big XII Championship. In that scenario, the team they play would have to have two losses as well (let's say, Missouri). OU would be 11-2, Missouri 10-3, and Texas 10-2. Texas would then have a shot at an at-large. If OU's next loss is the Big XII Championship, I'd imagine a BCS at-large would go to OU rather than Texas. Similarly, if Missouri finished 11-2, they might be taken ahead of a 10-2 Texas team as well, all this assuming two Big XII teams are taken.
I would hate to see an 12-1 OU team in the MNC, especially when most pundits are predicting they'll be the preseason #1 next year.

You know, I was going to say this earlier...
But I always prefer a good matchup than a bowl with a good name. Shoot, if Texas does play SC, that'll be one of the more watched games. As much as people think BCS games draw the most viewers, I think it's the games with the best matchups. I'd much rather go play SC in the Holiday Bowl, or Cal for that matter...or Florida/Alabama/etc in the Cotton Bowl than play BC or some Big East school in a BCS game.

%*(#&^ OU
I HOPE THEY TANK THE REST OF THE SEASON. 5 YEARS OF THEM BASHING US CAN NEVER BE FORGIVEN. I HOPE THEY MAKE A CRAPPY BOWL AGAINST A TEAM TAHT BEATS THEM WITH TRICK PLAYS AGAIN.
Cant spell Cousin Fucker with out the OU

What's wrong with the Cotton Bowl?
It's a good, solid traditional game in-state against a third-place team from the best conference. Isn't a good bowl game and bowl experience what you want?
Texas hasn't been to the Cotton since '02 season.
Texas-Bama?
Texas-Kentucky?
Texas-Auburn?
Texas-Tennessee?
Texas-LSU?
Texas-Florida?
Take your pick. Maybe Texas-South Carolina?
by FreedomDip on Oct 19, 2007 4:43 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Texas 'Bama or Tennessee
Obviously Texas vs. LSU or Texas vs. Florida would be the ideal games but we probaly won't play either but I would love to play Bama and woop up on Saban & Co. Tennessee would be cool to play just because we haven't play them recently and it would be UT vs. UT, Burnt Orange vs. Puke Orange, Underachieving coach vs. Underachieving coach.
University that worships their golden boy qb who won nothing on the field(Manning) vs. University that despises or not to fond of their golden boy qb who won nothing on the field(Simms) (VY is way to street or hood to be a golden boy qb). The story points for this game are endless.

I wish Texas would join the SEC
Then maybe we would get some respect from the polls.

Have you....
...actually been to the Cotton Bowl?
The Holiday Bowl against USC/Cal/Oregon/ArizSt. with nice warm San Diego breezes seems just right.
by HornChamps on Oct 19, 2007 4:54 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
The cotton bowl is only nice for TX OU
The cotton bowl during january is a piece of shit. It is cold in Dallas. and how decrepit the cotton bowl is really. sticks out during this time.
Its not too big of a deal for TX vs. OU b/c of the atmosphere and just the intensity of the game itself draws away all focus from the actual stadium.

I've been to two
Miss. St. and Arkie from '99 and '00. Thought they were great, but I was 11 and 12 at the time. My first Texas games. I went to TX/OU this year, and I think the stadium is great (I got there 2 hours before the game started, it was empty, and it was raining and miserable). I love how close everyone is to the field. I also love how low-key the advertising is, unlike some places (DKR-TEXAS-WELLS FARGO-MEMORIAL STADIUM). It also seems very cool because of my own personal history there, as well as the history of the Longhorns in that stadium. Personally, I wouldn't mind at all. I'd obviously prefer a BCS bowl, but short of that, back to Dallas!

Stadium is only great
if you are under 5'6"
I feel bad for the people in front of me, behind me, and beside me, because I am either standing the entire game, or my knees are in someone's back or taking up the area in front of the seats next to me.

That explains
Why I loved it when I was 12, and on Oct. 6th. I only sat down for maybe 30 minutes of that game. I never got your email, by the way. dustinsummy at gmail.com if you forgot. Hook 'em.

i'm with you on that, HC
Especially this year, I'd prefer the Holiday Bowl to the Cotton Bowl. Beyond the relative merits of the stadiums and weather, I just think the Holiday Bowl will make for a better game.
The Pac-10 is stacked this year and the Holiday Bowl gets the #2 Pac-10 team, so we'd end up playing either USC, Cal, Oregon, or maybe Arizona State. That would be infinitely more fun than watching Texas play some boring SEC team way too early in the damn morning on new year's day.

Weather and seats
I agree. That's why I just watch it at home and flip to other games during commercials.
As for the game, I agreee. UT has better chance of winning the Holiday Bowl
by FreedomDip on Oct 20, 2007 1:39 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
not sure how much it matters
but if we play in the cotton bowl, players get to spend christmas with their families. If its holiday bowl, the spend it in San Diego with their other family.
Sadly, for some of our players, I'm sure they'd rather be in San Diego with their teammates.

Cotton Bowl: close proximity/family/friends/hometown? It's just like how Aaron Ross was thrilled he was playing in the Alamo Bowl.
Besides, Hank Hill says God forbid we play in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl.

I'm Sorry Folks.....but
I will never hope OU wins out and goes to the NC Game ......ever...never...ever...
No bowl game or anything else is worth that !!!!!
And dont get your knickers in a knot over them having more national titles.....most of them came under Switzer, who cheated, lied, changed grades, allowed rampant drugs, paid players, disregarded all NCAA regulations and fostered and festered the most criminal program in college history !
Stolen championships do not count for nothin' !
