Open GameDay Thread: Texas at Baylor

Game 8: Texas at Baylor

Texas Longhorns (5-2, 1-2) at Baylor Bears (3-4, 0-3)

Saturday, October 20, 2007 · 11:30 a.m. CT

Floyd Casey Stadium (51,350) · Waco, TX

Television: Versus

Radio: 98.1 FM / 1300 AM (Austin)

First, a word on the Versus Network. If you're unsure how to find the channel in your area:

  1. Go to the Versus home page
  1. Enter your zip code in the little white box in the left column

Very nifty little tool.

Anyway, game day is here, and Texas looks to win its tenth straight over the Bears. Texas hasn't played back-to-back good games all season, so let's hope for a strong effort from the 'Horns today.

i would like to point out...

that the channel that will be broadcasting the texas game at 12:30 ET is, at 12:00 ET, broadcasting not a studio preview show, but "Ducks Unlimited TV."

Versus in Austin

Even in our time zone they're playing "Ducks Unlimited TV."  Who needs pregame info when you can learn how to improve your duck blind.

so is this the point in the game...

when we put the young LBs in and start making big plays on defense?

Or, since Baylor isn't very good and playing with a sub QB, do we keep the handcuffs on?  I'm just not clear on these rules we play by...

I agree...

Its apparent that the running game will be effective today.  I'm just saying that if Davis never calls a pass play while Chiles in at QB, defenses are going to cheat up and he won't be able to make those 3rd and 8 runs for a 1st down.

No kidding..

I think that one is on the staff as well.  Why roll a right handed QB to the left so he can throw across his body into the wind.  We all know that Chiles needs work as a passer but that was a difficult throw.

Scramble

McCoy's pocket was intact and he just start running to his right. I understand that's mostly served him well, but gratuitous happy feet is discouraged for a reason. Not a good throw, made lousy because McCoy was attempting to throw while running.

Dline

Not getting any pressure at all.

Why is the left defense end

split out nearly to Temple?

Is there some magical logic to that?

by whills on Oct 20, 2007 1:05 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Lokey

dropping in coverage...sigh

by anonyMoose on Oct 20, 2007 1:05 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

why do we keep dropping #96 in pass coverage

he's not helping at all
and he could be rushing

by abcdmetrius on Oct 20, 2007 1:06 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

We outsmart ourselves against weak opponents

instead of just playing it straight up. We need little blitzing; force them to earn it. But nooooooooooo...

i've seen that twice clearly

where he has the man over the middle
for no reason
leads an open receiver
and gives the qb more time to pass

Did you see the MLB cover the back

flaring out of the backfield? Just mindless.

Why the hell didn't they run a play with a timeout remaining?

PAT was blocked, though.
