Latest on NFL Horns

I'd just like to highlight some of our esteemed Longhorns in the NFL from the last weekend.

Tim Crowder had a stellar performance returning a fumble for a touchdown against the Steelers.
Selvin Young, on the otherside of the ball for Denver, didn't have such a good game getting only two carries.  Maybe Travis Henry will be caught for drugs again.

As for the Horns alumni in the Titans, with Vince Young on the sideline after last weeks injury (hopefully that Madden Curse lifts soon) Michael Griffin shined the most.  He had 5 tackles and a couple of great returns.  He's expected to be a big time leader for this defense.  Bo Scaife had 6 receptions for 49 yards but lost a critical fumble.  And I didn't see much of Hall.

Leonard Davis has been doing well with the Cowboys, Romo is well protected.  Cedric Griffin was a solid performer for the Vikings.

Those were the only games I caught, though I hear Cedric Benson is going downhill fast.  Anyone else hear anything?

Aaron Ross

He was the leading tackler for the Giants. He had 6 tackles, 2 assists and a sack.

Kasey Studdard

If you haven't heard, the Texans offensive line is a POS. Kubiak was willing to play the young guys -- something that some other coach we know of won't do.

Studdard was supposed to start last week vs the Titans, but he injured his groin during the week in practice. Tough break for him. This would've been his opportunity.

Minnesota Horns

In addition to Griffins TD, Brian Robison had a sack against the Cowboys and leads the team with 4 on the season.  And not to forget, Cullen Loeffler was most outstanding as the long snapper for punts...which the Vikings seem to do alot of this season!

Benson isn't doing anything fast

Have you seen him?  He always looks like he's running in mud, how did he get so slow?

I think Roy Williams had like 30 receiving yards, but the Lions won.

Was at the Titans game...

I don't think Hall is out for season, as a I saw #45 in the backfield a number of times. Was I incorrect?

Michael Griffin was a beast on special teams; he seemed to be in on almost every play. It's amazing that he can't even get on the field on D. Maybe he'll start getting some reps after the the shoddy pass defense in the 4th quarter.

Scaife looked good too (besides the fumble). He looked to be Collins' primary dumpoff option.

Vince looked good standing on the sideline. He was jogging before the game, and looked ready to go if the Titans fell behind. Luckily, the Texans suck enough that his services were never needed.

Also, regarding Benson, I've made mention that I'm one of his biggest fans and thus have seen a few of the Bears games this season. Part of the problem is that the run blocking schemes for Benson are terrible...there are zero holes for him to hit. But part of the problem lies on Benson himself. He'd rather dance around in the backfield waiting for a hole to develop, and consequently he loses yardage on too many plays. When he gets a hole, he simply lacks that burst of acceleration that would allow him to go for big gains. Combined, that leads to his 3.0 ypc average. Benson would look good as a LenDale White type player behind the Titans' O-line, but it doesn't look like he'll ever succeed in Chicago.

Bensen hasn't been quick since his frosh year

The Chicago Oline was plenty good for Thomas Jones, who had 2 great seasons despite sharing carries.  Jones had a terrific burst through the hole, whereas Bensen hasn't been quick since his frosh year at Texas.  I think it was the playoff game vs the Saints (although I'm not sure) where Benson played the entire 1st quarter and was ineffective, then Jones came in and exploded for huge gains, and you could see the difference between the two.  It's like watching UT when Killebrew and Bobino are replaced by Muck and Norton.  Night and Day.

Consider that Thomas Jones isn't even playing that well for the Jets (he's my disappointing #2 RB), and you start to think that the Bears Oline made him look better than he was.
I noticed on the Bears game winning TD drive it was Adrian Peterson in the game, not Ced.

Ahmard

The Chronicle reported today that:

"FB Ahmard Hall had surgery on a broken left arm Monday and could miss four weeks. Hall broke his arm in Sunday's win over the Texans."

Maybe he'll be back for the playoffs.

Re:

I'll support Benson until he's out of the league, no matter how bad he is. Ironically, his best bet at this point is a Thomas Jones-like career. If he can get out of Chicago and find a team more suited for his talents, he has a chance to be more Thomas Jones and less Curtis Enis.

Griffin

In case you missed it, Griffin took notes from Nordgren on his fumble return for a TD.  Sadly, he fell far short in the "Style" category, but it was a good effort nonetheless.

concur

Concur, I love hearing about what some of the former Horns are up to.

Also concur.

There's nothing like watching horns on Sunday/Monday!

Except maybe watching them on Saturday?

Speaking of NFL

I like to check out Music City Miracles for some VY updates.

If you think that some of the posters on this site are obnoxious (and I realize that I may be first on some peoples lists) check out this guy.

He hates VY more than Merril Hoge.

that guy's hilarious

i think it might be leinart.  that guy started commenting at music city miracles very soon after leinart got injured and had some extra time on his hands.

I think it might be

Kerry Collins's wife.  Is he married??

i was going to say his mom

but yeah, something along those lines.  the Collins-worship is equal to the Young-hate, which is equally laughable and quite suspect.

There is some talk

that Griffin might not be to far away from being moved back to safety and getting his first NFL start.  I hope that happens sooner than later.
