Second Half Open Thread

Ladies and gentlemen, Offensive Coordinator Greg Davis!

Seriously, my support for this program is undying, but I'm pretty well disgusted by that half of offensive football.

Let's hope for a big turnaround; just like the Kansas State embarrassment, we're going to lose without a 180 degree turnaround.

Hopefully we see more of him in the 2nd half.

there were actually more called passes

the McCoy sacks and scrambles look like rushing attempts, but they were called passing plays.

It seems to me

That we cannot make up our mind on what we are.  Last year, we said this is our offense, we're going 3 wides and passing all over the field - try and stop it.  Now, we have no identity and especially NO rhythm.  The Texas and Saints offense have morphed into the same unit: underacheiving O-line, talented RB that likes to dance when nothing's there, WR's who can't get seperation against man-to-man, QB making uncharacteristic bad reads and bad decisions.  Nightmare...

If "Texas has quit playing" as you say, I don't think you can totally lay that at GD's feet. Davis is just a convenient scapegoat. The problems in this program go a little further than just the offensive playcalling/gameplaning.

he did it against freaking Nebraska. Please don't let this one game erase his pathetic play this season.

by goingforthecorner on Oct 27, 2007 6:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Charles hasn't been pathetic

Our running scheme hasn't given him room to succeed. That was the point this week.

We finally changed that this half. You could make a great argument that if we're gonna make this change, Colt's the one that needs to go.

all he has to do is hold on to the ball

by RemiMagnus on Oct 27, 2007 6:24 PM CDT up reply actions

So yeah

About that totally unnecessary 2pt attempt at 21-17?  Mack needs a math major with him on the sidelines at all times.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 27, 2007 6:23 PM CDT reply actions

Mack was thinking

That 23-17 is a 2 possession game with respect to FGs.

by goingforthecorner on Oct 27, 2007 6:25 PM CDT up reply actions

I understand that

But the assumption that they will get the ball twice - also assumes you'll get the ball at least once.  It was ridiculously unnecessary.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 27, 2007 6:26 PM CDT up reply actions

He's also thinking

6 point lead means that have to make the XP after a TD to win it

by SaintBevo on Oct 27, 2007 6:28 PM CDT up reply actions

Perhaps

But if mack was playing for a 2 fg lead or forcing them to make an xp - that is just silly.  2pt conversions are overused.  Don't take points off the board that you don't need to - they will come back to haunt you, and they could have this game.

Just wondering...

Why didn't we just kneel at the end?

I mean, what if they somehow pop the ball out of Oggy's hands and they run to the house?

by goingforthecorner on Oct 27, 2007 6:31 PM CDT reply actions

Why not kneel?

I agree with you, and if not, why give the ball to someone who I don't believe had touched it in awhile?  Seems more likely to fumble at that point than Charles.

Officiating

I was proud of our guys today.  Just terrific effort and pride to not give up and keep coming back, particularly as they were outumbered on the field all game long.  The number of non calls against Nebraska even got the attention of the broadcasting crew.  I'll give them (reluctantly) the two late hits on Colt, as those were judgement calls.  An unbiased crew would have called at least one of them, though.  The holding on Finley on the 2 point try was blatant, as was the illegal block in the back on the kickoff.
I hope Deloss is on the phone to the supervisor of Big 12 officials, letting him know that if we ever see any of these clowns again at a Texas game, it will be the Big Eleven the next day.
These officials should consider a move to the NBA.
