True. But it busts the cherry on TOs.
For both teams. They have their problems in that area, too.
Charles didn't learn his lessons well. He's still holding the ball out to balance himself; that's the flaw they had to correct in Tiki Barber. You must keep it tight always, with your body supporting the cover your hand is giving. Then close to the goal you use the other hand. He just forgot it all.

I don't care how great we think he can be
It's just fundamentals, and you have to bench a guy when he continuously fumbles! For every fumble he has, he needs an incredible breakaway touchdown to make up for it...those aren't happening.

That was a great sustained drive and JC was not holding the ball tight. Nobody is great when they screw their team like that.

Game on the fly - 3rd Quarter
O Line: A-. Are they coming of age?
Running: C+. Big deduction for the JC fumble. They are getting decent, serviceable yardage.
Passing: A. It's the Colt McCoy of last year; it helps if he has time! Nate is stepping up and the TE's are fabulous.
Coaching: A. Is this GD's "good twin"?
Defense:
D Line: B+. Stuffing the interior but the pass rush is fading due to the conditions.
Linebackers: F. It's the only reason OU has gotten yardage today and Bobino's failure on their TD should lead him to be benched.
Secondary: A. Great 3rd quarter. Don't let it go to their head.
Coaching: B. Schemes were decent, but they are brain dead with the players.
Special Teams: No hits; no misses.
Let's go Horns!! Lip of the cup and McGee scores on the first play of the 4th.

Pass Defense Sucks
That 3rd down failed because the player didn't catch it not because we defended it.
If we're gonna give up all these blown zone coverages, I'd rather man up and play physical m2m like men. At least then if we could jam the WRs at the line,...the rush might get more into Bradford's face.

Speaking of state pride. Why don't you gloat back at them that OU has 45 Texas players and Texas sports absolutely ZERO from OK. When I saw that stat in the first quarter, I was happy as hell. Out of spite, I would resist recruiting from Oklahoma. We don't need them nearly as much as they need Texas football.

But OU fans get under my skin like no one else, mainly because of their stupidity. I know it's easier to just laugh and call them out of it, but I have a lot of pride, and hitting me where it hurts after a loss doesn't sit well. It's not that I'm ashamed to be a UT fan, but it's just easier to be non-confrontational.

Unranked Texas at Iowa State- My Top 5 list
- Why didn't Chiles play at all in the second half?
- JC= Fumble on four yard line and no effort on INT.
- Secondary, our corners fought the good fight but just aren't very good.
- Special Teams: Larry mac Duff needs to give his paycheck to charity this week
- Finley, Great strategy to not try and throw him the ball in the second half.

How do you not even get a play off?
Did we give up? Not paying attention? Nice leadership going on here. I'm sure NOBODY was even mentioning that the clock stops when the ball is spotted.

why can't we use Sweed
like OU uses Kelly? Their receivers killed our corners today. Sweed was non existent again

Because Sweed Doesn't Even TRY
He amazes me with his lackadaisical routes. He doesn't even turn around to locate the ball on the play that we got lucky on with the defensive pass interference.
I mean, how many plays has this guy made his "reputation" on? Can someone tell me?

With four conference losses in a row
I think things will start to shift now. The second half offense was not near as smart and aggressive as the first half; it looked more like the KSU and UCF games.

grades....
JC - F. HOLD ON TO THE FUCKING BALL. Everybody is busting their ass out there and keeping us in the game, and you get lazy with the football. Multiple fumbles inside the 5 this season is not acceptable.
Let it be known.
I am damn proud of the University of Texas Longhorns today. Fought hard all day long and kept this game close and played the best football all season long. dOUchebag wins here and there are gonna come and go, but as long as we play hard and keep it close when we are in a down year I'll be satisfied. I'm still pissed off, but I will not say anything negative about the effort given today.
Goddamnit JC, you hold on to that ball, and we win. Work on holding on to the ball better, and you will continue to be an asset to our team. Keep dropping it, and I'll ask that you please commit your time to playing full time track.
It's 5:14 PM MDT and OU still sucks.

I agree with you. I'm proud. JC has been fumbling his whole career. Today it cost us. Maybe he could do that when we had a better defense. We don't have that room for error that we used to.
I'm damn pissed that we lost the game. Proud at the effort and still hacked over the fact that we can't cover anybody and force a turnover.

What game were YOU watching?
I am the FIRST in line to criticize Akina for crappy defensive calls, Mack for bad decisions and above all Greg Davis for the most predictable and unimaginative play-design and play-calling.
But not today.
I thought the Horns were prepared.
I thought they mixed it up.
I thought that whatever they didn't do was because they were short on talent than on coaching.
I think that Davis had a good game today as a play-caller.
Face it, we just came up a little short because they're a better, deeper squad this year.

well...
it's hard to pin this one on the coaches. Especially, we should have a week off on the "Greg Davis is the worst human being ever" stuff this week...
However....
OU was having all sorts of problems establishing the run. We had completely taken that away, and after the one early drive where their QB just made about 3 perfect passes, we were doing okay there too... Then, all of a sudden, it's like someone noticed that the younger LBs had been out there for a while, and we corrected that and put in the "experienced" group. They promptly did what they're most "experienced" at. Bobino blitzed into the closest blocker and disappeared into their comforting arms, Derry tried hard and ran in place a lot, except when he was flat on his back as Murray ran through Bobino's dive into God knows what, and Killebrew managed to keep his name from being called until late, late in the fourth quarter. Bingo - OU starts moving the ball consistently, out of the shadows of their goalposts even.
I give up, I seriously don't know what Mack is thinking there. I can understand disagreeing on whether younger guys should play more in the secondary, I can understand disagreeing on whether Vondrell should get a few more carries when it isn't 3rd and short. But I cannot understand how the coaches watch the same games we see and keep on playing Bobino, Derry and Killebrew for the majority of the snaps...

Well...
it was respectable and close... and if Charles doesn't fumble or Limas makes a catch maybe a different outcome. McCoy showed why he can be really good today when he got the time to throw.
I am proud of the fact that they showed some pride and heart. Now we just need to finish the season well with what is left to us, win a bowl game and come back better prepared next year.

One more thing...
I am in mourning over our complete loss of national relevance with this loss. It took us along time to get it back from losing it in 1983 with the loss to Georgia in the Cotton Bowl that year (I was there) to getting it back around the 2000/2001 timeframe. I just gotta believe this team will improve for next year. Lord willing. Hopefully Colt and the O-line turned a big corner today.

well...
that sucked. A pretty good game, well played by both sides though. I can't kill UT for that loss, after I predicted them to roll over and get slaughtered, but that might be the happy Shiner talking. I'm sure I'll feel worse when I've sobered up.
I'm the biggest Charles fan, but he's gotta take your offensive offensive player of the week, PB. The fumble and tipped ball he should've caught killed us. Quite disappointing. I'm not sure what all the hubbub about Chiles was about in this thread; Colt had a great game.
Double negatives for the starting linebackers. They made a few nice plays, but on the whole were awful, yet again. Absolutely no reason to play them. I know Mack wants his ten win season, but development of the young LB's and DB's has to be priority number one. We can have a good team returning next year, if the OL, LB and DB youngsters get a chance to learn in-game.
Losing Aaron Lewis hurts...that looked like a fracture or broken arm. It's a position of depth, but it could end up like the Lokey injury last year. Small at first, but painful later.
Loved the inclusion of Jermichael. I imagine Stoops corrected his defense to shut him down in the second half, for those of you complaining about where he was. Jones, Cosby and Shipley were decent as well, but Limas' rock hands have returned full force, and his route running is horrendous.
From a coaching standpoint, looks like Mack and co. had the team well-prepared, unlike last week. Can't really put the blame on their feet.
The ultimate culprit was the turnover differential; we had a couple of tipped balls on defense that didn't fall into our hands, while Charles gifted two key turnovers. Other than that, a very even ball game.
Finally: god, I hate Sam Bradford. Is this what OU's hatred of Colt McCoy feels like? I can't even stand looking at his face.

Rest of the season
-Play Chiles more, and gasp! even let him throw it once in awhile. We need to experiment with Chiles and see different ways to use him (at receiver, as a running QB, as a passer, as a decoy at both Qb and receiver etc). Also, no more splitting Colt out wide.
Let the younger guys play on the oline and on defense. We can't do much worse anyway.
Anything else?

This just comes back to fundamental football
2 turnovers for Texas, 0 for OU, so if you want to attribute that to coaching, then I'm with you. I put it on Greg and Mack to keep playing JC when he obviously has butterfingers ever since he's been at Texas. Like I said in the earlier thread, he needs to have a "nobody else can do it" breakaway TD for every one of those fumbles, and he's just not producing them. Therefore, he sits and McGee gets the carries.
