What's all this I keep hearing..
About Texas passing ND to become the program with the most wins? Isn't Michigan atop that list?
That's what I thought
But people confuse me :/
is there any way to get the game online?
ABC in my region is going illinois vs ohio state, which is weird. i usually get the big xii matchups.
and the cable company wont let me purchase the game or the week on gameplan.

Me too
I live in Colorado and usually we get the Big 12 game on ABC, but for some reason, ABC thought most of the country wanted to see the Illinois/Ohio State game. Anyway, I've been looking the better part of the morning and havent found anything yet. I will just stay tuned here for updates, but will continue to search...

Jamaal-American just passed
Rosie Leaks as #6 all-time rusher.
Um
Hi Jordan Shipley. You give me hope that we can fix the vertical passing game.
Even if this doesn't count, I'm really pleased with what we're seeing early. Solid running and a beautiful play action. Greg Davis making me happy.
Just watchin
on Gamecast and it looks like GD understand now that Jamaal is our best offensive weapon...
Yeah, great start
And what a crazy conference. Nebraska punishing K-State, Iowa State beating Colorado (glad we met ISU when we did), the Ags making a game of it at Missouri. Maybe there's hope Baylor upsets o.u.
Wow
I had forgotten what it was like for Texas to get a close call in its favor.

terrific start
the run game is looking good. let's keep pounding away baby!
tOSU scores in first minute...
then illinois RB with a long run to the 3, he fumbles it, but the refs blew the call....
shoulda been buckeye ball at the 20 (OSU recovered fumble in the endzone), but illinois scores on a 3 yard pass...7-7...
i know this is the ttu-texas thread, but i only got this game on tv, so you're gonna get odd updates every now and then.

but 6 is 6
Well, I like that.
Tech had everyone up and we didn't care, just punched it in anyway. That's what we're looking for.
Charles
85 Yards in the first quarter, absolutely LOVE IT!
Was it
a fumble or not?
We may lose a few like that to make up
for Shipley's TD.
Tech has completely abandoned the run, since the
1st series.Time for an intercept.
by MeatchickenHorn on Nov 10, 2007 3:20 PM CST reply actions
Damn, haven't seen a first quarter like that
in quite some time. Tackling is crisp, even the LBs, little yards after the catch for Tech, great lateral pursuit. Great running by JC, great work by the line and the occasional good pass. Pass the gravy.
Really Happy!

other game updates
Illinois' speed is keeping them in the game with Ohio State. They can't stop State's offense, but State is having trouble stopping Illinois' offense, too.
Alabama got Croomed for the second year in a row, losing to Mississippi State, 17-12.
Mack is doing a good job so far outcoaching Leach. He's being the hunter instead of the hunted.
Jamaal Charles may have over 300 yds rushing against A&M, the way we tackle this year.
Get, GD, are you gonna send us Xmas cards, too?
Nice little roll out pass and Oggy did a fine job pulling it in.
Sounded like

I CANT BELIEVE HOW GREAT WE LOOK !!!!
by MeatchickenHorn on Nov 10, 2007 3:41 PM CST reply actions
my son Curtis
is a game changer!
can someone explain
what a "pooch kick" is and the rules with respect thereto?
by robis726 on Nov 10, 2007 3:42 PM CST reply actions
It's a kickoff high in the air
Usually about 20-30 yards deep to the sides of the field. Ball is alive after it goes 10 yards, so it's a live ball. Normally, the receiving team should fair catch - otherwise they can get smashed. Letting it hit the ground is a no-no.
pooch kick
is just a low kick from the kickoff, usually done to keep the ball out of the deep return threats hands...you give up automatic yards to get out of the risk of the longer return...sometimes done in high winds too, to keep the ball low.
any kick that goes past 10 yards can be recovered as an onside kick by the kicking team, though, without regards to who touches the ball first.
by bleed burnt orange on Nov 10, 2007 3:45 PM CST up reply actions
re:
A pooch kick is a kick that is low and designed to bounce around on the ground a lot earlier than normal "go-for-distance" kicks.
The rule is that on kickoffs, as soon as the ball goes 10 yards in the air, it is live and can be recovered by either team.
I always thought
a pooch kick was where the QB takes a shotgun snap and punts it to try and trick the defense a little...Am I wrong?
That's my boy!

howdy
Howdy fellow "longhoo." I'm here in Cville as well, doing the whole med school thing. Given the scarcity of Texas fans in this part of the country, it'd be fun to keep up with Texas sports together. I'm not trying to be weird and creepy, but sometimes watching Texas sports can be a lonely activity since I don't know any other fans up here. It's nice to know there are other Texas grads up here.

Any coincidence his initials are the same as Jesus Christ? I think not.
by anonyMoose on Nov 10, 2007 3:45 PM CST reply actions
Its something
a lot of teams do, in a situation where a team doesnt have a good kicker or is kicking into the wind or is playing a team with a good kick returner. The ball stays in the air long enough that the return team has to call a fair catch. In the case of what just happened, the return team isnt really coached on how to handle a sky kick or pooch kick. We used it a lot when I was in high school...

Yech
I'm "watching" in Hong Kong via Gamecast. How ugly was the interception? (badly overthrown, stripped from receiver, etc.?)
Thrown a little short and off the mark.
Shipley had run a stop and go route, didn't see the ball because it was off the mark. DB got it at the one, carried into EZ by Shipley.
Mistake by Colt, should never have thrown the ball or should have thrown it out of the EZ. Cost a shot at FG.
My thanks
to whomever kidnapped Greg Davis before the game. I'm sure the judge will let you off easy if your lawyer can get the case tried in front of a Longhorn fan. Or did Mack just convince Greg that it was already the 4th quarter at the start of the game? I know this is complicated stuff, but given that TT has trouble stopping the run, the fact that we are actually running it amazes me.
by Longhorn in Canada on Nov 10, 2007 4:39 PM CST reply actions
Horns must get pressure on Harrell to stop Tech.
Otherwise run JC for 350-400 yards and outscore them. An 11-point lead is not safe.
Traditionally, you must pressure receivers and cut off short routes to give time for the rush to get there.
I've only seen the dbs come up on the wrs a couple of times so far. And obviously, that's also dangerous to us with our coverage.
At this point, it's a shoot out.
If we deferred, why take the wind in the third
and not the fourth quarter in a game that might be decided by a FG? hmmmmmm
i think...
when you defer, you still have to choose to get the ball to start the half...then the other team gets to choose side to defend.
The Defer rule is actually some type of trick. If you win the toss to start the game and elect to kick, the other team gets the choice in the 2nd half and can elect to receive, therefore getting the ball twice. weird rule, eh. I think we messed up on that decision once. in 2004 against Arkansas I believe.
by bleed burnt orange on Nov 10, 2007 4:50 PM CST up reply actions
Normally if you want wind, you choose goal
to defend; the other team then gets a choice of getting the ball or kicking off.
as the boys on the radio said
Texas wind dies down in the evening.

Great looking win by Texas. Can't wait for the write-up on this one, PB. Akina and GD came out with some fantastic stuff, the young line held up really nicely, and the KBD line even looked solid. Amazing stuff, really. I even halfway enjoyed the broadcast...camera work was nice, replays were very helpful, and the announcers were tolerable. Great job to the offense and the o-line minus Hill and Griffin. Next year they are gonna be incredible.
Hook'em Horns
Grades
GD and offense: A+ for scoring despite a freshman offensive line and trying to keep the Tech offense off the field simultaneously.
Akina and defense: F- for being an absolute joke.
by goingforthecorner on Nov 10, 2007 8:02 PM CST reply actions
I would not
give GD's calling an A+ for his brilliant scheme. We scored, but I attribute that to a lack of play defensively from Tech and amazing play from our Offense. I'd give him a B just because getting the job done is getting the job done.
by inVINCEable on Nov 10, 2007 11:15 PM CST up reply actions
C'mon, don't be a Scrooge - LOL
I'm critical of the play calling at times, but GD deserves an A today. The play calling was aggressive and the players executed. It was great to see.
by LeftHandedTexan on Nov 10, 2007 11:59 PM CST up reply actions
Being honest
Giving Davis a B isn't being a scrooge, it's being honest. All of our offensive success was due to a complete and total lack of defense by Tech and pretty amazing playing by our players. GD really wasn't all that agressive. Going for it on fourth and 1, and the fake punt were nice, but thats about it. Our guys just did a great job of avoiding what little defense was out there.
And if there was a grade lower than F- to give our defense, that's what they would deserve. It was almost as bad as Tech's. I never liked the idea of Akina, and this season has shown why. A towel boy who actually pays attention o the games could have prepared a better defense than Akina did.
