Balanced Attack
The secret to the success of the Gazelles this year has been an unprecedented balance in their offensive attack, something I've never seen in the few years I've been following volleyball. No other team in the nation can boast of five players who regularly score in double figures in kills - in the same match! That fact was underscored this week when the Big XII announced yet another Longhorn was awarded Player of the Week honors. Ashley Engle is the fifth Texas player selected so far this season - a Big XII record. The only player on offense to NOT be selected thus far is senior middle blocker Brandy Magee. All four of the other hitters have been selected (Destinee and Juliann more than once) as well as setter Michelle Moriarty.
Destinee has also been selected as the National Player of the Week once, the only Big XII player besides Nebraska's Sarah Pavan to be so honored this year. The stats continue to mount, and it's looking increasingly likely that Texas will have at least four All-Americans this year, and probably the National Freshman of the Year as well. They need to start retiring some jerseys to the rafters at Gregory!
Texas is four matches away from a Big XII Championship, two easy ones - at home against Tech then at Baylor - followed by two challenging matches at Iowa State and home to #12 Kansas State. Fans have been turning out in droves for the past few matches as the word's gotten out that these girls are really good. And fun to watch. So two more chances to enjoy these special Gazelles you BON'ers. Give it a go.

VB jerseys in the rafters is a great idea
You make me wish I could see the Gazelles up here in the Northeast.
And maybe I can .. who knows? Here's another idea -- is there a common travel calendar for all Longhorn sports teams? I mean, I'm not likely to check the travel schedules of every individual sport, but if I could look at one calendar and see my options for catching, say, men's BB at the Garden .. the women at Rutgers .. the Gazelles in a tourney somewhere .. maybe then more of us Longhorns in Exile might show up.
You know of any such animal? I know texassports.com has a listing on the home page, but it usually only gives you dates about a week out.
Here's your all sports schedule
It defaults to showing you the next 30 days for all sports but if you click the link in the upper right "Show All Events" you get a page that allows you to select whatever month you are interested in seeing.
I think this is the animal you're looking for.

Retiring Jerseys!
They have to retire Vince and Cat's number ASAP. How can they retire KD's, but not Vince and Cat's?! No more retired Jerseys before Vince or Cat!
Cat's First
Again, I love Vince and do not hold against him at all his decision to go pro before his senior season. However, there is something to be said about an athlete dedicating 4 (or 5) years to a program. Cat spent four years on the 40 acres, a majority of which she spent playing for the National Team as well.
No, Cat didn't bring us a national championship. But arguably the most dominating pitcher in softball history did give us all four remarkable years of collegiate softball.

All of that said, I would LOVE to see the 4, 16, and 44 hanging in the rafters at Gregory. All three of those girls have absolutely re-written the Texas record-books and/or been invaluable to the team.
I've said it once and I'll say it again: I'll see you in Sacramento.

Absolutely
They were completely different. I don't know that I'm necessarily trying to compare the two, anyway. It isn't to say that Cat's accomplishments or time here was better or more worthy than Vince's at all. It is just to say that Cat gave us four years, and still hangs around the softball games and volleyball matches whenever she gets a chance. I'd put her all time "Longhorniness" up against anyone's, and think her jersey should go up first.
