Some people...
....want to claim that Alex Smith's start has been a bust. Yet, a comparison makes an objective fan wonder who is starting out their career with weaker results. Please don't anyone chime in with the "weak surrounding cast" excuse", as absolutely no one has a more pathetic team than the '49'ers.
Alex Smith's 2nd Season:
QBRat Pct PassYds TotYds TotTDs INTs
74.8 58.1 2,890 3,037 18 16
Vince Young is on pace to deliver the following results in his 2nd Season:
QBRat Pct PassYds TotYds TotTDs INTs
62.2 60.9 1,977 2,363 11 18
Let's face it, it will be more than a few years before we can actually judge Vince's success. The same for Alex Smith, Jay Cutler, Matt Leinart and Aaron Rodgers.

smith
However, a lot of people saw Smith's second year as a huge improvement and were picking the 49ers to compete for the playoffs and to win the West with his progression, Gore's ability, etc.
He has severely regressed and the Niners stink. And only now are they talking about him being a bust. Before the season, it was a lot different. So, for a lot of people, these discussions are somewhat framed by preconceived notions.
As for Vince, I wish the Titans would open things up for him. They are limiting his throwing to practically only throwing downs, which is making it difficult. They should just let him loose and allow him to use his natural playmaking ability. But we've seen this before.

agreed
these "who's better" arguments hold little water until the guys have had a few years in the league. It's difficult to compare stats and numbers and records with such a small sample and when you take into consideration the different situations surrounding the players (aaron rodgers, for example).

hoge
I hate to harp on Hoge, but he makes it so easy. Part of his major conclusion is based on his belief that neither quarterback has a big-time receiver.
Huh?
You're telling me that Javon Walker (before getting hurt), Brandon Marshall, and Brandon Stokley are equivalent to the Titan's group of no names?
There is a huge difference there, and one that shouldn't be so carelessly tossed aside to make a point.

Sean Salisbury is a believer
On Friday's NFL Live Salisbury said that if they redid the 06 draft he would take VY first overall. And that's even with VY's slow start to this season.
I'm not a huge Salisbury fan but at least he and I can agree on something.
