Well it wasn't pretty but the Gazelles kept their Big 12 Championship and #1 NCAA seed alive tonight. They beat unranked ISU 30-19, 30-24, 24-30, 32-34, 18-16. We cruised through the first two games and I think the Horns must have had a plane to catch, because all the sudden ADD sat in and we couldn't do anything. Give ISU credit they were playing for an at large NCAA berth and needed the win over #3 Texas to get off the bubble. They almost got it.
Despite the fact ISU was unranked and it never should have been this close, playing in this type of match can only help the Horns come tournament time. Previously, we'd only played one 5 game match all year at KSU. This match was a heartstopper. We were down 9-14 in Game 5 and I was watching our Big 12 Championship go up in smoke. Michelle Moriarity stepped back to serve after a side out and reeled off 4 straight points to tie us up at 14. After trading several points, Kiley Hall came in and served out the match.
Coming back from a 5 point deficit at game point in rally scoring is pretty unfathomable. I'm proud of the girls for gutting it out.
Saturday night at 6:30 at Gregory Gym the Horns close out the regular season against #12 KSU. They need butts in the seat to give 'em the homecourt advantage and say goodbye to the seniors.
