Mack or Davis?
I have been thinking about this for a while and I'm not sure which is true. Is it that Greg Davis is a good OC, but is limited in what he can do by restrictions from Mack, or is Greg Davis just a bad OC, plain and simple? I personally want to believe that Davis is a bad OC, because it wouldn't help to get a new coordinator if he is going to be restricted by Mack. What does everybody think?

GD should be let go
I hope he takes another job and makes someone else's team miserable..he has been with us for 10 years and look at our record...only one National championship...we went to 3 Conference championships and did not win any...I assume GD came on board with MB...now...if 10 years of poor and mediocre performances are not a proof he should go...what should be?...National Champs were all about VY..and not about GD...
Now the real question is MB capable of letting this fellow go..?..no I dont think so coz MB is way to loyal to his staff...I dont think he is going to let DA go too..he may get someone to "assist" him in defense if the pressure becomes too high...
Look at OU..they have their offensive co-ord for about 6 years now and they have gone to 7 BCS games...(correct me if I am wrong).....what does that say...bottom line is I dont care what the fuck other teams do...I am a long horner and I expect to see results...and great results...we have the talent...the best there is...but we have the staff which doesnt have the talent...if mack cant make the changes maybe he needs to go too...like mack says the team had the heart ...but heart is all they have,...cultivating that talent to greatness is what the coaches lack..so the coaches have the heart BUT THEY DONT HAVE A IOTA OF TALENT...

Bad arguements
10 years and look at our record...only one National championship...
Yes, and there are only 9 other teams who can say this, and none who have more.
we went to 3 Conference championships and did not win any
We are actually one for three in the conference championship, remember it was that 70 - 3 game against Colorado before we won the National Championship?
Look at OU..they have their offensive co-ord for about 6 years now and they have gone to 7 BCS games...(correct me if I am wrong).....what does that say...bottom line is I dont care what the fuck other teams do..
If you don't care what other teams do, then why did you bring up OU? How did they go to 7 BCS games in six years?
..so the coaches have the heart BUT THEY DONT HAVE A IOTA OF TALENT...
Don't you think you are being a bit too hyperbolic? They have to have some talent, as Mack has the highest winning percentage of any longhorn coach.
There are some valid criticisms of this coaching staff, BCS games and Conference Championships should be goals for this team every year, and I think comparing OU's percentages on both of these goals to ours shows that Mack and co has come up short of what he should be doing. But making ridiculous hyperbolic statements and calling for everyone's head is just foolish.

I dont think it is that easy
I think that Mack wants conservative play calling, so that is on him. Some times this helps, sometimes this hurts. Last year I compared Mack to the big time coaches and he actually wins a higher percentage of games he is favored to win than any other coach I compared him to (I am not sure if this is true after this year). He also loses more that he is not favored to win than Stoops and Carrol did. I think this can be attributed to his conservative play calling.
I think that GD does well at offensive scheme and player development.
I think that GD also gets too rapped up in the percentages and this causes him to have poor in game adjustments to teams that throw something new at him and to continue to run plays to reach the balance he wants or that don't work because on paper they should.
Finally, I think that although I would not characterize UT's offense as the best in the nation, with the exception of 2004-2005, it has been, at least statically, in the top 25 for the years GD and Mack have been coaching.

Mack on the headset
was it last year that Mack decided to provide "input" on the offensive play calling? To me that says, GD was questionable (at best) on some of his play calling and Mack wanted to be in agreement.
Just my opinion but it tells me Mack isn't 100% confident in GD's play calling if he's listening in to to the discussion and then agreeing or disagreeing.

It's really hard to believe
that either has the keys to a Vette in the garage and neither want to push it over 45 mph.

Not so Black & White...
I think the problem here is that GD and Mack have fallen into some kind of common-law marriage situation. Mack is the (unintentionally) overbearing husband, and GD is the timid wife that just wants to avoid conflict.
I don't think Mack or GD have "the keys to a Vette," but rather they have the keys to two different garages with a couple of clunkers, but overall, enough spare parts for a really smokin' hot rod. I think that since they've been together so long, GD is more content to let Mack hop in and revise his gameplan. This can be a good thing, like against Tech, where GD would probably have liked to get into a shootout throwing the ball, but Mack wanted to run JC all day and burn clock - Success. I think against A&M, though, Mack figured his defense would keep A&M off the field, handed the reigns to Davis, and Davis worked all week on keeping Colt in the pocket, got unlucky on a few dropped passes, fell into a hole, and abandoned the running game.
This is an example of GD's ineptitude. I think the other side of the coin is in big games like tOSU last year, Mack tells Greg to choke the offense to "protect" the young quarterback, and instead of saying "Well, Coach, that's exactly what they'll gameplan for. What if we came out firing on all cylinders and took a chance on Colt, then we'd have a chance to take a lead into halftime, they'd adjust, and we could play defense for the second half?" Instead of saying that, he doesn't want to say anything and is content to put Colt through the bubble screen boot-camp to get him ready to score one touchdown and lose.
Whether this is actually what is happening, I don't know, but the signs are there. Who knows? Maybe Mack is too stubborn to reason with, and a new OC will only get into pissing contests with him for a year and then get fired for some numbnuts that wants to do what Mack says. At this point, it's worth a shot, though.
