LSU pipe dreams
I go to law school with a whole bunch of LSU diehards, and today they were convinced of two things: 1)Les Miles is as good as gone; 2) Spurrier is his replacement. I didn't know how to take that, so I just laughed at them. But, if it ends up being true, I fear even more for our Texas recruits.

What about Bo Pellini?
I read something that said the Cincy coach (?) Kelly could be headed to Nebraska. Maybe that would open the door for Texas to get Pellini as DC?!?!
Besides, I think Spurrier is past his prime. Don't get me wrong, he's still good and could wreck a lot of things in this part of the country (recruiting mainly) but it seems to me he's not quite as sharp as he once was.

Re:
I don't think it will be Kelly based on this
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/s...
I agree that Spurrier may not be the mad genius that he used to be. He was the original offensive innovator in the SEC, but now it seems that title has been passed on Meyer. But, his recruiting prowess is still scary. Classes under him at SC have been 2007-#7, 2006-#33, and 2005-#20 (Scout.com). I imagine at LSU he would be able to keep those numbers around that 2007 class because of his Florida ties and proximity to the great state of Texas.

UT alum in Ohio
People in Ohio are really talking about this. Some seem to say Brian Kelly of UCincinnati is a top candidate at UMichigan. But we're also hearing that the UC AD has talked with Kelly this week, and it seems a raise or contract extension is in order. That keeps Kelly here so Cincinnati fans are happy. The tOSU fans are also happy that Kelly isn't a finalist for the UMich job because they think Kelly would do good things for UMich. Ohio State fans like wins over Michigan so they are also doubly happy to hear that Miles is a candidate at UMich. I think if (that stooge) Miles goes to UMich that Jim Tressel and tOSU will have a field day for a few years coming. So either way the Cincinnati and Columbus resides are pretty happy about the ongoings at UMich.

Why would OSU have a field day?
Is there a reason OSU thinks they'll walk over Mich in a Tressel-Miles matchup?
Look who Miles beat this year:
Spurrier
Beamer
Meyer
Saban
Tuberville
Those are top-notch names. Sure, he may have dropped one to Houston Nutt, but he played Florida a helluva lot closer than Tressel ever dreamed last year
BTW ... this comes from an LSU fan who doesn't give a rat's ass about Miles

FD,
if Miles goes to Mich, who do you think you get?
by the other Andrew on Nov 29, 2007 9:06 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Was in baton rouge last week
The names Tuberville and Spurrier come up. And of those two, folks down there would rather have Spurrier
Two names I heard on the radio on Saturday were Rich Rodriguez and Jack Del Rio
Rodriguez seems pretty content at WVU being a former walk-on and coming back to coach in an easy conference with a chance to win national titles. If he wouldn't go to Bama, would he go to the wars of the SEC in Baton Rouge?
I prefer Jack Del Rio ... his contract is up with the Jaguars, his wife is from the BR area and his daughter goes to LSU. Del Rio wanted the job after Saban left. Why him? Defense, defense, defense. You need it to win. He'll have the offensive talent and current OC Gary Crowton. If Pellini leaves, you still have a NFL-caliber defensive guy in Del Rio. It worked for Pete Carroll.

Do you think you could do better?
You can apply for the job yourself.

Re:
Also, I just spent the last hour reading the Simmons chat transcript on black background, and my eyes are fried.
But I saw this headline:
Tom Osborne is back as Nebraska's football coach -- but just temporarily.
Osborne, already the interim athletic director, on Wednesday declared himself interim head coach until he hires a successor to Bill Callahan.
The interim coach designation lets Osborne visit prospective recruits away from campus, athletic department communications chief Randy York said Thursday.
Would anyone be surprised if Osborne pulls a one part Isiah (complete decision-making domination), one part Joe Gibbs (return to hopeful glory) and takes over the Nebraska program? I mean, is there really anyone else in the country that can turn Nebraska around? Does anyone want to go to the middle of the country where the two best traditions are the relic option play and the nicest fans in the country? I'm for a Nebraska renaissance, as it would be good for the Big XII, but I'm not seeing much success coming if their big hire turns out to be Turner Gill.

Why Can't We Talk To The Orgeron?
Hatboy to Michigan yeah that's fine, we've known that since they shat the bed against Appy State. Real question is, why aren't we picking up The Orgeron as DC before the next coach at UCLA (mike leach) snatches him up? There's plenty of good restaurants he can terrorize in Austin, hell he can get the deer population in Westlake under control and satisfy his blood urge, 2 birds with 1 stone.
Seriously, changes on the D need to happen.

you think orgeron and mack
will get along? their personalities are, uh, a wee bit different.
he's a good recruiter though, so who knows.

Get Along? Not A Chance
But here's to Mack finally taking the route of enlightened self-interest and NOT hiring the warm and fuzzy crony, but rather the Best Neanderthal For The Job©. I don't care if they go at eachother with chainsaws in the athletic offices, as long as the D comes out and plays with some fury. Akina's 'Cover None' scheme ain't the answer, that's for sure.

Pelini
I'm not convinced that Pelini is so wonderful. After a strong start, their defense sucked ass down the stretch. With all that talent, I'd expect less than 1000 yards allowed to Ole Miss and Arkansas. My LSU alum friends are hoping he walks.
