Jerry's Wonderworld
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...
But what he got when he visited the Cowboys this week to hear the team's sales pitch was severe sticker shock – $100,000 each for two personal seat licenses, a new feature that would allow him to buy tickets at the team's new $1 billion stadium in Arlington. And those seats near Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' luxury box weren't even for the priciest seat licenses in the new stadium – those go for $150,000.
I find this to be outrageous and the cause of the lack of excitement at many professional atheletic events, primarily the NBA. Blue collared fans, who in my generalized opinion, are the most devout fans, but with prices like these fans are priced out of attending the game. I hope Texas/OU is never moved there because I can only imagine how much more expensive tickets will become.

I'd rather...
...pay the additional ticket price and enjoy myself in Jerry's Palace, rather than suffer additional games in the sewer they call the Cotton Bowl. I'll truly miss the State Fair. However, I have no interest in seeing the game going H/H.
BTW, Jerry Jones is a hillbilly and I'd love to see him suffer under the debt-load of that Palace. The view from my couch is just fine and the $150,000 is much better in my brokerage account. He'll be selling those seat licenses many years into the future.

re: seeing JJ suffer
Finally, something HC & I agree on. But you have to understand, Jones is still trying to raise enough funds to pay back the accumulated interest from pawning his soul. So that makes the 6-figures completely understandable.

re: $100,000
I'm not sure why everyone is up in arms over this. The $100,000 to $150,000 seat licenses are for the best 1,000 seats in the stadium with all the amenities. That's less than 1% of the total seating.
Plus, these people in the story were fully prepared to pay the $16,000 - $50,000 license fees for the lower bowl seating, which is only for the best 15,000 seats in the stadium. It's not like a lot of these people are owners of mom-and-pop camping supply stores. There's a lot of money up here.
Plus, there are still plenty of opportunities for lower-priced seating that will be available. God forbid an owner try to make money off his football team and new stadium.

If this has you up in arms....
How do you feel about the criminals at the Longhorn Foundation? $20k or more need to be ponied up now to get 50 yard line seats in the lower deck. Even at that donation level, there are no guarantees and you don't know what seats you will get. At least at Jerryworld, you know what you are paying for...

Seat Liscensing
From my understanding there are only 15,000 of those seats and this doesn't necessarily block out the "blue collar fans". Only locks in the best seats in the house (which blue collar fans typically cannot afford anyway). This was also done at Texas Stadium in Irving in the 1970's. Only then it was $1000. Different times, different amounts. I'm certainly not defending the price, or Jones for that matter. But there are two sides to the story.

Then you say:

I'm assuming that you'd rather the game be played at Jerry's World? Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen. With the new deal that a&m and Arkie just got, they've locked up the stadium for quite some time. And it just happens to be the same weekend as the Texas/OU weekend. Coincedence? I think not. Jerry HATES the city of Dallas for what Mayor Miller did (what a douche-bag mayor that was). Not only has he secured a game that competes with their crown jewel game, but he's forced them into renovations to the Cotton Bowl that they did not want to do. Dallas has to keep up with the Jones' now.

From Beergut's diary...
He says the Pigs and aggs will play the first weekend of the fair. Don't we normally play the second weekend? I thought PV A&M and TSU or something play the first weekend in the Cotton Bowl?

Maybe I don't understand the parameters
But this year we played on Oct. 6th, which was the first Sat. in Oct. It may not necessarily be the first Sat. in Oct. but it is the first weekend of the State Fair. Dunno. And I'm sure someone will look it up and make me look like an ass.

I think this year was weird.
My wife's B-day is Oct 13th and she was born the day before the RRS. Most of the time we are in Dallas to celebrate her b-day with her parents.

State Fair
Looking at the dates from this year's State Fair, the first weekend was a week before we played. I thought the RRS was the second weekend of the State Fair, too. I also thought it was PV A&M and Grambling State who also played during the State fair.
I say, let the hogs and farmers try to compete against the RRS. We all know our game means more and will be a better game anyways.

on the upside
If you do choose to pay the 50k for the right to get a ticket for 30 years, the Dallas Cowboys will finance the 50k over that time at 8% (absolutely true by the way)
