Second Half Open Thread
What is it with Texas against Oklahoma State? We're like Martians for half the game.
Let's hope for another miraculous happy ending.

well shit
I'd like to see some more of that Killebrew on the field. He's good.

Posted on the 1st half thread, but can we get a 3rd down stop? They're 8 for 11 right now and on one of the stops they converted on 4th.
Kelson going down was the key play
he doesn't go down, they have to burn a time out
buzzard's luck in the 1st half
it's gotta turn around, right?

but seriously
in order for us to get back on top, I think the one thing we need to start doing is tackling. No more YACs or even "Yards after Jukes", or YAJ's as we say when Bobibrew is on the field.

2nd Half strategy
Kick some ass, Horns. That Finley guy might be an option offensively. And how about some better tackling? I'm sensing a good 2nd half. BON'ers...keep drinking just in case.

just in case...
...they play well or poorly?
either
celebratory or to temporarily forget! let's hope for the former.
by FutureMan on Nov 3, 2007 4:31 PM CDT up reply actions
halftime adjustments??
I don't even know where to start.
for starters...
a little pressure on Robinson (when they're not running the screen), better tackling. On offense, the medium middle looks very soft. Perhaps a nice place for JF to settle down. I still think the points are there for the taking, but we have to tackle better and get off the field on 3rd down.
by FutureMan on Nov 3, 2007 4:30 PM CDT up reply actions
why wouldn't you
stick to the run game and use chiles at some point. Yes, colt is getting yards but they are still keying on JC. They cant do that when Chiles is in the game. Colt gets very few yards on planned runs. Nebraska was the exception and not the rule. I dont get it.
Here's an adjustment
let Dustin Earnest play for Killebrew. I guarantee you we will see better results. Hell a hobbled Kindle would be better than Killebrew.
a few snaps for Earnest...
wouldn't be a bad idea. our LB's have been getting exposed, as if anybody's surprised.

Perhaps we should equip 40 with frying pans
at least the noise would alert the backfield about incoming runners.
I hope there's some spit flying.
Mack looked like he needed a drool cup today anyway.
Mack says...
"You go out and beat this team, Gundy can take it, 'cause he's 40 and he's a MAN!"
i dont think they can hear him
while he claps and cheers for effort
Mack
didnt take his last time out at 2 second left of the half to ice OSU offense momentum is beyond any human basic instinct.
Notre Dame just scores
to tie the game. A hail-mary (4th and 14) call early in the drive on the ND side of field. What is this season coming to?
When Kansas can drop 76 on Nebraska
damn near anything can happen.
As long as they don't
come out of the locker room jumping around and talking smack. That hasn't really worked well for them this year.
Gundy
is coaching to win. He's a man afterall. 40 years old.

Another trick play. Reverse pass to receiver Matt Flynn. Flynn is hurt now and Periloux is suspended. LSU no. 3 in the game
Go figure
a play where you cant tell for sure and it goes OSU's way...
wow
they didn't have to challenge AND there was overwhelming evidence to overturn.

The only review texas has won this year is the TCU fumble when Colt's knee was down.
what was conclusive?
never mind Shipley was shoved.

Norton is out with a bad shoulder.
If they can't tackle any better than that
OSU will reach 54b's 54 points. They don't seem to be able to wrap up anyone.

- Get VLC
Sopcast/VLC note:
All streams on Sopcast can be viewed with VLC, though for a select few streams this is mandatory. Additionally, sometimes VLC can stream a few seconds or more ahead of what shows up in Sopcast itself, which can help reduce your lag between the stream's source and when you watch it.
To use VLC, download VLC at http://www.videolan.org and install it , then start the Sopcast stream and let it buffer. Then open VLC, go to Open Network Stream, select HTTP option, and type in 127.0.0.1:8902 (if not working, try port 8912). You MUST leave Sopcast running; closing Sopcast closes the stream. If the stream gives sound in both VLC and Sopcast, mute the sound on Sopcast, or hit the refresh button so the Sopcast screen goes blank, but the VLC screen stays intact

WOW
Incredible play in Navy game. Roy Williams like.
in case anyone was wondering
yes, that was a 94 yard TD drive setup by a Colt McCoy interception at the OSU 6 yard line
by Crash on Nov 3, 2007 4:54 PM CDT reply actions
refs have NOTHING
to do with this beating. Don't go there. We shouldn't be in a position where a call or two can change the game.
You guys better catch
the leaping midshipman sack against ND on the highlights tonight. OMG, what a play!
Navy sack!!
ND, tied at 28, goes for it on 4th-and-8 inside the 30 with 45 seconds remaining. ND quarterback drops back and Navy defender went all Roy Williams/Lavar Arrington on the sack. Navy gets the ball back, game headed to OT
colt cannot throw past
40 yards with punch or accuracy. He has clearly not beenthe same since the "stinger"
I agree but
you cant pin this on Colt either. One of the INT's was a freakish type play where the wr got popped and the ball happened to go high enough up in the air for someone to dive and catch and the other was a questionable call. Probably the right one, but one that 50% of the time is called the other way...
I see
BPU has a great basketball team too. unfortuantely those facilities are division i-aa caliber as well. the old soak's son is on now for some pr bullshit.
by FutureMan on Nov 3, 2007 4:57 PM CDT reply actions
no more passing
run left, run right, run up the middle. We've got a better chance of breaking an 80 yard run then we do of colt going the rest of the game without another INT
by Crash on Nov 3, 2007 4:57 PM CDT reply actions
colt past the line?
let's take ten fucking minutes to review, shall we?
by FutureMan on Nov 3, 2007 4:58 PM CDT reply actions
What was the call?
The implicit "call" was that it wasn't over the line. But there was no call per se. So, I wonder if this is even reviewable because there's nothing to overturn.
if it is
the holding, pass interference and offsides should be fucking reviewable. getting bitter and upset.
by FutureMan on Nov 3, 2007 5:00 PM CDT up reply actions
how can they be reviewing this???
you can't review a penalty or a potential penalty?????
somebody explain!!
but you can make up rules on the field
when you're at home
and the coach is on the field pointing and uncontrollable
like you can go back and add time to when you should've blown the play dead ... not when it was actually blown dead
we're playing bad AND getting screwed ... honestly ... this is a turd of a game
i want a review
on the clip on one of the punts in the first half , a hold and a hands to the face that weren't called.
by FutureMan on Nov 3, 2007 5:03 PM CDT up reply actions
What I dont like
is that Gundy 40 got to take up time by being on the field and Texas couldnt get up to the line to run a play. How about a delay of game penalty? I'm asking anyone if they have seen anything like that before...
hey the 40 year old man has the right idea
if any play is at ALL questionable, run up to the line and QB sneak
by Crash on Nov 3, 2007 5:00 PM CDT reply actions
Agree, and prick also rhymes with dick
he is a real hothead. They like those kinda coaches up there. Eddie Sutton broke the mold.
You cant review
a penalty. This is whack! Anyone agree?
Boone Pickens...
has a lot of money. i'm not saying, i'm just saying.
by FutureMan on Nov 3, 2007 5:04 PM CDT up reply actions
it's reviewable
just like it's reviewable if someone went out of bounds and came back in to make a catch or something.
going out of bounds
and catching a pass will not result in a penalty so yes it can be reviewed. throwing past the line of scrimmage is a penalty.
we should challenge
the next stretch play. they're holding on every fucking one of them. we also kind of suck.
by FutureMan on Nov 3, 2007 5:09 PM CDT up reply actions
"but most of all, shoulda never not got called"
- The Bachelor
I agree
I did not know you could review a penalty. I really hope Mack asks for an explanation.
by Bdub on Nov 3, 2007 5:02 PM CDT reply actions
Line of scrimmage violation
Reviewable. Refs acted within their discretion.
The problem today is not the officiating, I'm afraid to say.
The problem is Texas.
They're not attacking a weak D.
In watching Kansas, it was constantly attack. Big chunks all the time. Not nibbles or set-ups. I've said this a lot but a good offense attacks relentlessly. And today we're not too good.
and mine!
otherwise, i wouldn't give a shit.

TEXAS FIGHT
F this, we can still win this game.
Well, we need a minimum of 28 points
and I really suspect 42 will actually be necessary. So, what's the call, boss.
the call
stop 'em on defense, score points on offense.
In general, try to move an oblong-shaped ball down the field.
so much for the receivers being the strength
of the team.
Dropped Balls
Poor blocking
and most importantly, inability to get open

They've missed so many tackles
that after a while the players lose their aggression and just try to make sure they get the guy. That's basically how they should have been operating at first. Then you can take a kill shot ever so often when you have pursuit coming. But today, no...
Now 0-3 against decent teams

top to bottom
this season has been the worst coaching job in last ten years
by EEhorns on Nov 3, 2007 5:22 PM CDT reply actions
I believe that
will be well-reflected in the final record.
What bothers me most is that
we aren't even preparing well for next year. Our young studs are getting no playing time. This spot duty doesnt help anything.
Has our OL gotten better as the season went on?
I say No. Which makes me a sad banana.
by the other Andrew on Nov 3, 2007 5:23 PM CDT reply actions
I LAY IT AT THE FEET
of MB and the coaching staff:
- Poor "2 a day" preparation with the "jailbird" distraction and who knows what else. Fundamentals on this team have been bad since day 1. I don't think this can be overemphasized.
- Need new coordinators.
- Need to play for next year; put in the young studs.
We'll be lucky to go 1 and 1 the rest of the way and end up in the Independence Bowl.
This may be a good year to stay at home.
Sometimes that chills the whole coaching crew and team.
nice use of google earth
maybe the announcer could take a call from ed cunningham for filler since we're not competitive.
by FutureMan on Nov 3, 2007 5:23 PM CDT reply actions
Hypothetically, if we lose out..
Does Dodds have enough reason to shitcan Davis and bring in some fresh blood? And perhaps hire a real defensive coach and, I don't know, maybe lock them up with a good contract?
interesting
i don't think we lose out, but we need shake up on the staff. promoting akina was a nice loyalty move, but idiotic. we can pay our coordnators more than most head coaches get and we promote the secondary coach(the weak link of last year's defense). maybe we should make mcwhorter the OC next year?
by FutureMan on Nov 3, 2007 5:27 PM CDT up reply actions
I suspect Dodds is getting calls right now.
Even if we should pull this out by miracle of miracles, it's obvious that there will be widespread unrest.

What are the stats on yardage off screen passes?
Every time it seems to go for big gains.
Do we deserve to win?
Of course I want to win, but all the mistackles and miscoverages can't be forgotten. This is disgraceful, though the injuries are piling on...

When in doubt...
Run with McCoy. Can you believe that? Who thought that statement made sense?

Colt
for all of Colt's flaws and mistakes, I still love the guy. Such a competitor.
Money, money, money.
Drinks all around.
Okies eat shit once3 again.
I am a MAN
I am 40 years old and I got out coached today.
UNREAL!!!
Ryan Bailey for President!
311 fourth-quarter yards for Texas.
What in the hell is that?
One of the weirdest stats the last two weeks. Real Dr. Jekyll- Mr. Hyde stuff.
no fucking way
there's no better group of people i would have rather watched such a historic game with, seriously
Horns!!!
I'd like to take credit for being the only optimist about 2 quarters ago.
What a comeback! Bailey for president.
P.S.
This game may never leave my DVR.
You get the kudos.
We were on the far, far side of snark.
4th quarter kids
unberrieavable. Thank you Bailey.
i am speechless.
JAmaal Charles deserves that MVP award. He's gone from the man we don't want getting the ball, to our go-to guy.
Just....incredible.
Wow...
Again....what a great finish. Go Horns!
Amazing.
OSU choked again. I can't believe we won.
False Start Dockery
Not to rain on a great parade, but wasn't that the second game in a row that Dockery has been called for a false start late in the game? Could have been costly.
I have to admit
I never would have thought, much less predicted that could or would happen. Wow.
Hook 'em Horns!
We are not worthy
We betrayed our team by doubting.
So does Jammal become a Heisman canidate? He has to be considered right?
Over 450 yards in two weeks
basically in two quarters is impressive, with 5 TDs too I think.
Hey I never did!
But the Tech game is going to be another adventure if our poor tackling and covering carries over. But I don't think anyone's even thinking about the Tech game now. We're just happy we're still alive.

I want to lift one to 54b.
He was there and should have witnessed the comeback if he hadn't exploded from the 3-2 beer. He called it 55-54, so here's to you 54b.
Mack Brown
almost looked like he felt sorry for Gundy at the end.
by goingforthecorner on Nov 3, 2007 6:33 PM CDT reply actions
he said...
"you're a man, you're 40, take it...."

MVP - Bailey, McCoy or Mack?
Unbelievable! Ryan Bailey's kicked another de ja vu winning field goal which had happened on Nebraska last year.
Mack got my one vote for MVP - he has done a really good job by yelling at the team. As a coach, I think he needs to yell at the team more. When we play sloppy, he needs to be a hardcore coach. No more pleasing everybody or afraid of hurting someone's feeling that kind of bs approach to the team.
Fire up the team & yell at them more, Coach Brown!
I dunnot if this is Texas vs. OSU tradition. We always able to come from behind by the big margin to beat them. Every time we played OSU, that was the case.
For the gambler who bet the Horns to lose today, sorry. You have just lost your bet:)
Hook'em Horns!
Beasley too
That guy was one player on d making plays all day.
