BCS Standings Open Thread
The latest BCS Standings are about to be announced on Fox, with a precious spot in the title game now in play for a handful of new teams now that Boston College has lost.
The most interesting question is to see how far Kansas will move up. With no losses, they'll fare pretty well with the computers, but the human voters remain relatively skeptical.
Update [2007-11-4 16:36:52 by HornsFan]: Standings announced: Oregon stays ahead of Kansas. The official top ten:
- Ohio State
- LSU
- Oregon
- Kansas
- Oklahoma
- Missouri
- West Virginia
- Boston College
- Arizona State
- Georgia

The good thing (or bad thing)
if you're a Kansas fan is that KU gets a shot at the number 6 and 5 teams on that list. That's two huge chances to impress the humans and the computers. This is shaping up to be a crazy finish.

I think you're right
Kansas is overrated. They're good, but NO WAY IN HELL the #4 team in the nation.

Preview of next week...
First of all, nice to see that we're getting some points on the computers. Ironically, we dropped in a human poll this time.
Lets take a look at the ranked teams ahead of us or have 2 losses that have any shot at all of losing.
#1 Ohio State hosts Illinois (7-3, 4-2):
I don't really see this happening, but Illinois has defeated two ranked teams in the Big 10 and came off a whooping of Minnesota.
#4 Kansas @ Oklahoma State (5-4, 3-2):
What's the over/under going to be set at? 80? Cowboys defense needs to show up, and hopefully Savage destroys KU. If OSU is pissed off from our game, then this game can be won.
#6 Missouri hosts Texas A&M (6-4, 3-3):
Don't even know why I'm listing this. A&M's offense is garbage and doesn't seem to stand a chance in this game. Maybe if McGee, Lane, and Goodson can run Mizzou to the ground and drain clock.
#7 West Virginia hosts Louisville (5-4, 2-2):
Louisville was horrible to start, but they've managed to gain some credibility, winning at Cincinnati and playing a close game @ UConn.
#8 Boston College hosts Maryland (4-5, 1-4):
Only reason why I'm listing this is because it's at Maryland. They did win @ Rutgers and play close against Virginia.
#9 Arizona State @ UCLA (5-4, 4-2):
UCLA's horrible on the road, but their last home game was a W against Cal.
#10 Georgia hosts #18 Auburn (7-3, 4-2):
Both teams are ranked, but we want Georgia to lose. Auburn beat Florida and almost won @ LSU. That's enough for me. If Auburn wins, they have 3 losses so I don't think they'd jump us.
#11 Virginia Tech hosts Florida State (6-3, 3-3):
FSU just won @ BC, no?
#12 Michigan @ Wisconsin (7-3, 3-3):
Wisconsin has been overrated all year, but they are playing at home this game.
#13 Connecticut @ Cincinnati (7-2, 2-2):
Cincinnati is playing at home and has beaten 2 ranked teams, including @ South Florida.
#15 Florida @ South Carolina (6-4, 3-4):
Florida, meet Steve Spurrier. Florida would probably jump us if they win, so this game is important too.
#16 Hawaii hosts Fresno State (6-3, 5-1):
Is this game critical or what? Obviously, we can't afford to have Hawaii steal a BCS spot.
#17 USC @ California (6-3, 3-3):
You know USC could jump us with any quality win. Computers already like them more than us.
#19 Virginia @ Miami (FL) (5-4, 2-3):
Virginia could jump over us if they win out. They play better teams than we do.
#21 Clemson hosts Wake Forest (6-3, 4-2):
Meh. MAYBE they could jump up if they win out, with a BC win.
So, how many of these teams do I really expect to lose? I'll say #4, #9, #10, #11, #13, #19, and #21.

Virginia
First of all, everyone this season has played UVA tough (5 wins of two points or under).
Also, Virginia would have to win the ACC to jump us, thus getting the automatic bid.

We really shouldn't worry about the BCS at all
I'm sort of pulling for a Texas-Florida Cotton Bowl.

It's strange to think
that with all the upsets this year, its conceivable that the second-tier bowls could have better match-ups, and probably higher television ratings.
People are not going to watch Boston College and UCONN in the BCS, but they will want to see USC in the Holiday Bowl or Florida in the Cotton Bowl.

Big XII
Wow! Three Big XII teams in the BCS top 6! And we're at 14. The Big XII does not suck.

Or...
the teams at the top of our league haven't played each other yet.

Make peace with your abberations.
There is still plenty of strangeness left in this season.
