KD King of the Garden
Last night was my first chance to see Kevin in person and he was absolutely spectacular, dominating the second half of the game and almost singlehandedly defeating the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The numbers were terrific: 30 points on 11 of 20 shooting and 5 boards. Even more impressive was his ability to work within the offense, take good shots, make terrific passes and move without the ball. Sure the Knicks defense isn't exactly the Eastern Conference version of the Spurs but the performance was really something.
To date KD has done very well for a rookie, averaging 20 points and 5 boards but has struggled some shooting only 39%. Last night he looked like a full blown all-star. This was only one game, but his ability to do that so early in the season indicates great things for his future.
I shudder to think how amazing the Horns would be had Kevin stayed but he's clearly ready for the next level and, as the Greg Oden situation shows, one can never be too careful about injuries, even in basketball. In any case we can look forward to a great season for the Longhorns and having one of our own develop into the rookie of the year and one of the great superstars of the NBA.
