Enemy of the Nation '07

Since the year is coming to a close I was wondering if there will be an enemy of the nation this year. Was it just a one time deal or do we plan to have one every year? This year there isn't an array of "good" candidates as last year. Who would the candidates be this year, if we plan to have an enemy of the nation?

Here are my possible candidates:

Bob Stoops - He has to be a candidate every year because he is Bob Stoops, one of the most arrogant coaches in the country and just doesn't seem like a likable guy. He is, afterall the OU coach. He consistently outcoaches Mack and wins Big 12 titles every year while we get 10 win seasons every year. I hate the guy and he bothers me so much but i don't think that he did anything that terrible except beat us (which was our fault) to earn the title and we beat ourselves more than anything.

Sooner Mom - If this were a presidential race, she has to be the front runner. Not only did she get on this site after we made fun of her kid and complained, but she got back on to talk shit to us after OU beat us. I think that is pretty low and sad, and shows the inferiority complex that OU has to us. She is the only enemy of BON directly.

Star-divide

Mike Leach - Mike has never really irrated us over the years, because we almost beat his team every year. They do give us a struggle and challenge every year but he is not a pain and not really an enemy. I actually find the guy really amusing. This year was different because of the way he acted after the loss to us. It was just sickening as to saying that the officials played a hand in his defeat and that they were favoring us. P.S. Mike, all the replay calls were correct and its not our fault that you have one of the worst defenses in the conference. Mike is kind of like fatass Mark Mangino, just a sore loser and in denial about his coaching ability. He is more of a throw in candidate than anything else.

Ron Prince - He is my personal choice for BON Enemy of the Nation '07. Not only has his squads derailed our seasons two years in row, he just seems really annoying and bothersome. His whole stomping and high stepping on the sidelines, after seemingly every kick return, just bothered me. I might be more mad at him for exposing how bad we are than actually the guy himself. This is pretty stupid to say, I hate the fact that his team outplayed and outcoached us. I guess I am mad as how we don't bring that intensity like his teams do. It bothers me more that his team only showed up against. This was the same team that got stomped by Nebraska, lost to Iowa State and lost to Fresno State.

Stephen McGee - An aggie has to be in this discussion and Mr. Tough Guy, Stephen, has to be on here. I hate the fact that the only two good games he has played the last two years were against us (Its an overstatement, as he probably has had some other good games). What bothered me about him was his, trash talking and little lasso dance during the game this year. I guess I hate him because he beat us and does nothing else. I just hate how most Aggies love the guy and don't see that he is a bad quaterback. It is kind of shallow, but I think Stephen is in the top three.

Greg Davis - Greg has recieved a lot of hate this year, and over the course of his tenure, and a lot was warrented. The biggest fault with Greg Davis this year was that we didn't have an identiy the whole year. I still don't know what the offensive identity of this team is. Is it a zone read team, a run first, pass second, or vice versa? We didn't include John Chiles in the offense, thus wasting a year of his elegibility. If he played at least 10 snaps against A&M, we might end up winning the game. I just feel that two of our three losses (KSU and A&M) can be really attributed to him. It is just time for him to go and I am really sick of him. He has done a solid job over the years but its not a concidence that pretty much every loss the last 6 years have been blamed on the offense and its time for some new blood. This year, it seems, that the fire GD chants have been louder than ever.

Ourselves - I think the biggest enemy of the team was themselves. All the way from the coaching to the players. JC was his worst enemy this year and, IMO, cost us the OU game. I don't care what people say, he doesn't fumble we win the game. Our special teams was horrendous. I have been following UT ball now for 8 years and this was the worst that i have seen it. No blocked kicks, return game would have been an embarrsement had Quan not taken it back against A&M. There was a bright spot in Ryan Bailey. Our coaching was horrendous and thats the only way to put it. In all three of our losses we were outcoached. In two of them we were badly outcoached and unprepared to play. It just seems that there was no energy and leadership this year.

Great Diary

I'll leave it to the commenting gallery to chime in whether we do this again.

One caveat: I think we'd be best off disallowing any Longhorns - staff or player - on the list. No Texas athlete, no matter how disappointing on the field, can be labeled an Enemy of the Nation. We can have special end-of-season awards/evaluations for players and staff, but it should be separate from anything attached with the word 'Enemy.'

Beyond that, though: glad you brought this up. I hadn't thought about how much I hate Kellen Heard for four days, an unacceptably long amount of time.

Agree

I think you are right as no athlete should be enemy of the nation. You are right in that regard, but i believe that our staff can be enemy of the nation.

No, no member of the team,

coaching staff, and administration can be considered an enemy of the nation. We may, and do, disagree with some of the moves we see, but don't call into question their loyalties. I may disagree with certain BONers, but I never doubt their allegiance. The obvious exception to this rule is Beergut, but he's not one of us.

I never will forget ol' what's-his-name.

Still

Andre Ware. For fact that his cock-sucking of Josh Freeman was epic enough to continue into this year should no other candidate appear. We'll see about his possible repeat.

I really hate that cheating bastard.

Oh but this year...

I guess mcgee.  He is arrogant for having done nothing the past two years in terms of performance.  I guess we'll see how arrogant he is when he goes undrafted and can't get a free agent sign anywhere.

Merle Hoge

Whose very existence irritates the Longhorn Nation. This might require an emeritus status, no matter what others may be revealed.

We think Vince will figure it out, discover what it takes to get what he wants. And then he'll do it. Merle sees it another way, the present stage.

I see VY mistakes and understand he is not afraid to make mistakes, merely because he seesan action that can be done.

The reaching the ball out against A&M is a great example. He saw that a quick, long reach would score the TD, a clever move. His mistake was that of time and place; you don't stick the ball out into the mass of people at the fighting line of scrimmage, especially when you have plenty of means to score.

He would learn those; that last running TD against Michigan would feature that gesture as he scores with a mass of Michigan defenders laying in his wake. (My screen saver for a long while.)

Vince can do things. The real question is whether he can survive to do so in the physical sense, and whether his team will really unleash the offensive side, something dynamic in terms of Vince.

So, is Merle our conscience reminding us people have their limits? Or just revealing an ever-present example of people reaching theirs?

Oh crap

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Dec 19, 2007 8:39 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yup

It was this sentence that first got me suspicious: "Mike has never really irrated us over the years, because we almost beat his team every year." [emphasis mine]

Weird misspelling/typo combined with a horribly misplaced modifier [last I checked, Tech is the team that almost beats Texas every year, and Texas is the team that beats Tech almost every year.  Big difference.] just screams Dhab.

This made me fairly confident: "All the way from the coaching to the players. JC was his worst enemy this year and, IMO, cost us the OU game. I don't care what people say, he doesn't fumble we win the game."

Classic Dhab.

Then it was other Dhab-ish things: posting late at night (you  know, after high school lets out); his first post on the website being an extremely long diary; various anachronisms (i.e. as Shake pointed out, there's no way someone is hanging around the site and reading the comments long enough to know all this stuff without ever signing up and commenting before).

by billyzane on Dec 19, 2007 10:28 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

You are a tool

Just because i have been reading the site for a long time doesn't make me Dhab. I don't have to defend my self as to why i have never logged on before.

I am really sick of you. I think you, actually, deep down really want to be dhab and are jealous that he is more (in)famous than you are. It seems like every new user that has an opinion and you don't like it, you call him out as dhab. Wait at least until a couple of comments before coming to such rash, and irrational decisions.

Its not my problem that no body comments or cares about your boring ass statistcal posts. If i wanted to take statistics class online i would have gone on the University of Pheonix website.

You are just mad that no body cares about your long ass statistcal posts that are boring.

I don't have as much knowledge as you about dhab but i know a good amount about him, and i wanted to nominate him for enemy of the nation but i knew that if mentioned him than you would fire up a witch hunt because, apparently if you mention him ("whoever smelt it dealt it.") than you are dhab. I knew as soon as i came up with the idea for this diary that you would probably come out and attack.

What is your problem man? I see you consistenly badger and belittle new users and make false accusations. I am not Dhab and i don't need to justify anything. What is wrong with posting a diary at 9:30 at night? At that time, besides work, is when most people are on the internet.

I can't believe i have to defend myself.

Its not. I am not dhab and thats end of that.

Awesome

Creating alternate obviously outrageous accounts to divert attention, specifically trying to pump up women's basketball in another post (iirc, disrespecting women's hoops was one of Dhab's original sins), claiming to be a "longtime reader, first time poster" even though most novices don't post 6 times in their first 24 hours let alone immediately get into shouting matches with billyzane (who, as I always try to remind people, you should listen to because he's a cool dude). It's all great work.

Captain, you have outdone yourself. Be proud of your ability to rally the BON community together in the pre-bowl, pre-conference bball season. No matter what happens with our beloved Horns, we will never allow your douche-baggery to bring us down!

re: Improvement

Forced evolution?  Maybe.

But I truly believe that BZ will also continue to evolve, and will be able to spot the great fish lurking in the deep.

The bigger picture here is that Dhab continues to take the wrong approach to BON reinstatement....if it is even possible to gain such status. (Only PB can make such a determination.) You don't just keep signing back in every 2 months under a different username, and trying to mask your identity.

My thought would be that one should very humbly e-mail Peter and state your case, including changes made & how things will be different....maybe even establish some boundaries for yourself that will not be crossed.  But again, I'm not the one to say that reinstatement is even a possibility.  I'm just saying that the approach we've witnessed won't (and shouldn't) succeed.

My kid may have given up a costly fumble against OU, but at least he's never been accused of face raping.

Anyone got the name of the dude who gave a Sooner 'handshake' to the UT fan?  If a guy attacking a UT fans scrot doesn't make the top 5 we're out of touch with our Enemy of the Nation priorities.

I agree with generic freakin Aggie fans/players and their upsdie down horns, and singing 'Saw Varsities Horns off no matter who else they are playing...'

Expectations...

were the biggest enemy of the Nation. The coaches said all the right things going into the season, we expected Colt to be even better than last year, that the defense would improve, that the young linebackers would play more, etc. Expectations are a problem every year, but somehow this year seemed worse.

I agree, Cyrus

As much as I have barbecued him myself, he's still on our side and, as it stands right now, we'll need everything and everyone on our side to beat ASU.

GD has has had games where he has seemingly redeemed himself and even had a season, once. And the hard fact is, after this season, he owes us.

I'd like to settle up the ledgers of these assistant coaches in this bowl game and then let the chips fall where they may.

I'd like to say good bye to some of them, thank them for their service and note that we would like to go another direction - about 20 yards beyond the OU line of scrimmage on a regular basis.

by whills on Dec 20, 2007 11:05 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

ditto...

It starts a bad precedent, since if we make GD and EON then what are we supposed to do with Makovic out there walking around unscathed?  If Davis is an Enemy then Makovic must have his legs broken, its just that simple.  So you can see it just makes things messy and we should avoid that at all cost.

I still can't believe noone else put 'the guy who ripped the Longhorn fan's ballsack' as an Enemy of the Nation!?!?!?!?  Logic dictates that guy was messing with present AND future generations of BON'ers so how can he not have a wanted poster with his mug on it in every place that sells UT gear?

double ditto

I'll second this. Aggie 'horns down' is pathetic, but ripping into someone's sack like a birthday present is just unacceptable.

Hell, he's a personal danger.

Just another fine reason to avoid the whole damn state. The last time I was there was in Boise City in a damn blizzard and all the roads were shut down; had to share a room with Leatherface.

This is awesome

Sorry to come late to the party, but I just have to echo how impressed I am BZ.  You sniffed that out pretty quickly.  Well Played sir.  I would have never figured it out from the original diary.

Kudos.

This is classic.

Agreed

Although I missed it I did enjoy reading the thread today.

PB, move this one to the classics library

I'm quite sad I missed this whole ordeal.  I had a road trip to Birmingham and spent all week there, during which time I had no internet access.  Painful, yes.

Then I get back here and discover I miss one of the all time classic threads.  Sooner satchel-grabber painful.

At least I saw it before it moved too far down my diary list.
