Florida Atlantic is pretty good
If you're wondering why you're supposed to care about the title of this diary, it's because we have to play these guys next year at home.
Florida Atlantic 44, Memphis 27

Their QB Rusty Smith threw 5 TDs.
Looks like Smith along with most of their skill position players are coming back next year. Could we be looking at another Central Florida type game?
What's more concerning is that this is our FIRST game of the year. Looks like we'll be playing a pretty good offensive team, so our defense better come ready to play immediately.

You're kidding.......
...., right? Good gosh, that squad lost to Oklahoma State by the score of 6-42!
They played 3 ranked opponents and lost to all three! Those 3 losses came by an average score of 20-46.
They're just another of Mack's many cupcakes over the past 20 years. Being the best of the Sunbelt doesn't make you a good team.
Memphis, poor things, made them look good. Memphis went 7-5 in the regular season, but never played a ranked opponent. Not one! They lost to Arkansas State for gosh sakes. Oops, we almost found ourselves in OT with those guys......

Well technically
We've only played one opponent that's ranked right now, and they beat us.
You can go ahead and look at their schedule and convince us that this is going to be some easy game, but you probably could've done that for Arky St. and Central Florida this year too...
Bottomline is if we're playing a team with a good offense, we should be concerned.

If we have a new DC..
most of our flaws on defense will be fixed. As long as our DC plays the best players and uses effective schemes, we have the athletes to be a top 10 defense every year.
Think about where we'd be THIS YEAR with a different DC and the 3 young LB's starting this year?
The problems are bad, but not irreparable.

even in a different scheme, you'd still
get torn up by any decent passing offense.
You can say what you want about your talent level, but nothing would have changed WRT your secondary.
Now, a more sound scheme taught well so that your DEs use better technique and the right LBs are on the field would mean your problems stopping teams that run the zone read would vanish.

FAU will always be a challenge
as long as Schnellenberger is there. He's trying to build them the same way he built Miami, use home grown Floria talent to get speed on the field, and outrun everyone else all over the place.
The way to beat FAU is to continuously hit their speed in the mouth with a good power running game.
It remains to be seen if texas can bring that next season.

Schnell Is Amazing
He created that team out of nothing in less than a decade. Yeah cupcake blah blah, FAU is for real, believe it or not.
Wish Boise St. had lived up to their hype, my bracket is FUBAR'd.
