Ryan Mallet

How much did we recruit Ryan Mallet?

I just saw an article that garnered some interest for me. Ryan Mallet is thinking about transfering since Rich Rodriguez is bringing the spread running offense to Michigan.

My thought is, if we recruiting heavily, but picked Michigan over us how much interest would there be to transfering to UT?

Here is the link. I understand it is just rumors, but hey, this is what college football is all about.

just can't see it happening...

at best, he's someone you'll only have for a max of 2 seasons, and that doesn't start for another year...  prior to the scholarship limits, perhaps, but not in today's CFB environment.  By the time he'd be available, Chiles will be a junior, and you've got a couple of stud QBs you're hoping to land that will have all 4 years available.

One thing this does point out is just how inequitable the whole CFB experience is for players.  A coach can just jump to a better situation if it presents itself.  But with a player, once you've signed on the dotted line, it doesn't matter if the coach you signed with takes off, it doesn't matter if a coach you hated in your recruiting process takes his place...  you're stuck, unless you're willing to give up 25% of your college career and hope you can land in a better place, and that if you do, that coach doesn't get a better offer...

Personally, I'd like to see a rule in place that if the coaching changes, any player in good standing can transfer without any loss of eligibility.  Then again, I'd like to see a whole bunch of changes that would benefit players and fans, but when the decision-making (as well as ALL the money) is made by coaches/schools, I doubt that's a high priority.

He can't implement the spread right away.

Rodriguez is an idiot if he tries to implement WV's offense right away. Its got be a slow progression. I think he should start slowly with that O.

IMO, i don't think Rodriguez will be a success at Michigan. I just can't see UM running a non pro-style offense. Michigan in the shotgun is like seeing Navy in the spread. I don't think big time qbs will want to come there.

no more pocket passers..

at UT until Greg Davis is gone.  He's proven that he can't adapt an offense to fit his players so Mack must recruit for the opposite.

My adopted son Sergio Kindle does not sleep; he waits.

Exactly...

... Colt is one of my favorite players, but I'll be damned if I'll wish what he's been through here on anyone else.  We only want QB's that are recruited as ATH.  If ESPN thinks you'll be a good QB, you aren't for us.

Growing up, I only fed Jared Norton paper. That's why he eats plays.

Mallett just one of many

... talented signal-callers around the country with Texas roots. And there are at least 10 D1-caliber QB's entering their senior seasons in 2008. We are truly blessed in the Lone Star State. And it's partly for that reason I can't see Mallett transfering to the 40 Acres.

To track where Texas football is now, you could look at the NCAA statistics; eight quarterbacks who played high school football in the state are ranked in the top 25 in passing efficiency and/or total offense. You can watch coach Mike Leach plug in another quarterback at Texas Tech, where junior Graham Harrell leads the nation in total offense.

You could watch the BCS bowl games, which have no Texas schools but do have three Texas quarterbacks:

• The Sugar, where sophomore Matt Stafford of Highland Park will start for No. 5 Georgia;

• The Orange, where sophomore Todd Reesing of Lake Travis will start for No. 8 Kansas;

• And the BCS Championship Game, where senior Matt Flynn of Tyler will lead No. 2 LSU.

(And don't forget Missouri junior Chase Daniel of Southlake, a Dallas suburb, who will return home to play for the No. 6 Tigers in the Cotton Bowl.)

Ivan Maisel

Brown had a chance to sign Mallett but passed on him when Brantley expressed interest. Given the fact that we've got two pocket passers already in the fold (McCoy and Kinne) and one of the best in the country expressing interest in 2009 (Gilbert) I doubt Mack would seriously consider him now. Mallett's from Texarkana. I hear Arkansas can use a good QB.

Life is an Occasion. Rise to it.
