Texas vs Wisconsin
It's tied 33-33 at halftime. Good things and bad things so far.

Augustin and Abrams are playing solid. AJ is making his shots, so he's not a liability unlike the Michigan State game. He has 11 and DJ has 6 points and 6 assists. Augustin is really making some crisp passes and trying to get everyone involved. James is once again a rebounding monster, and is way on pace for a double-double. He has 10 and 8.
Unfortunately, we've missed a number of point blank shots, keeping them in the game. Mason has done absolutely nothing productive on offense. We've given Pittman a lot of playing time to match-up with 6'11" Butch, but it's not working. Dexy does have his one daily power dunk, but nothing other than that. Atchley hasn't completely disappeared like the Mich St game, but he's being contained to 4 points.
What's real disappointing is not only being tied with them at home, but Wisconsin is without their best player, Trevon Hughes. They're playing pretty good defense and not allowing us to run them off the court. We have no answer for Butch right now.
The news of Johnson coming back for the TCU game (in 4 days) is a breath of fresh air, but right now we're in danger of a disappointing and embarrassing loss considering that the Badgers are missing their best player.

at least from TV, looks like a good crowd is at the game, despite the early 11am start.
Atchley scores inside on the hook. I like him going inside.
Speaking of which, James has also had a number of post-up plays. I know some of you wanted James to post-up more, so there you go.
Hopefully by the end of the season, we'll have Connor, James, and Johnson all scoring inside for us. Maybe even some Pittman!

You're technically right
But ironically, we're out-rebounding them 24-21, but it's probably due to all the easy layups we've missed.
Landry is doing a pretty good job inside for them. If you're wondering why the name sounds familiar, it's because his older brother Carl played for Purdue and now with the Houston Rockets.

Winning 42-37
DJ just canned a three in transition. That's actually the second three he hit in transition.
Then James scores off a great block by Connor.

Much better
Wiscy will have trouble containing us if we play like that.

AJ THREE! 45-37
We might beat the 7.5 line after all.
Transition has been the key. DJ and now AJ just hit a three off the fast break. We've been making a great effort at pushing the ball, and it's single handedly padding our lead.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:14 PM CST 0 recs
45-40
We left Bohannon open and he canned a three. That's like a layup for him, so we should probably stop doing that. He reminds me of Brian Boddicker. If he's open, he's probably going to make it.
The crowd is active for once. Probably the first time I've seen the crowd like this all year.

Grrrr
Internet out all morning. Just now back online.

45-42
UW just got an and one. We're still leading, but they are dominating us inside, while we're hitting our outside shots. If our threes stop falling, the Badgers could steal this one.
SEXY DEXY jams another one! 47-42, 12:43 left.
Jay Bilas is correct. UT needs to drive more often. There is an athletic disparity favoring UT. They can't guard DJ, AJ, and James off the dribble.

ALLEY OOP!
DJ TO DJ! WOW! Sensational pass from Augustin to James for the dunk plus the foul.
It's all about transition for us. Wiskey is playing good half-court defense, but is not nearly athletic and fast enough to stop us on the open floor. Barnes is doing a great job at encouraging us to run.

Huge play
Especially if James hits the +1.
Let's bury these guys...

James missed the FT. We're only 1-4 on the game on FTs.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:27 PM CST 0 recs
He is getting A LOT of playing time
Barnes thinks he's a good matchup for Wisconsin. Wangmene and Chapman have barely played if at all.
Dexter snarls away the rebound.

They are going inside most of the time and Bohannon is nailing his threes. We're having trouble with their half-court sets that's getting them the ball in point blank range.

Another missed FT, 1-6 from line
Connor misses front end of a one and one. That's a killer.

Slop
Missing free throws and lay ups all day.

Ugh Mason
another ugly offensive performance. Just missed a three that he could've drove. He's 0-6.
Badgers lead 52-51 on another easy layup from Butch. 7:20 left.

this team is trash
how is the game even this close
by abcdmetrius on Dec 29, 2007 12:34 PM CST 0 recs
We're just not playing well
The tempo has slowed down again, allowing them to come back. Missing FTs, easy baskets, not rebounding well, allowing easy baskets. That's the formula for losing a college bball game.
Augustin needs to start carrying the offensive load. Only has 8 shots attempted for 9 points.
James already with the double-double. 18 pts, 13 rebs.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:36 PM CST 0 recs
Nice
Damion! Big bucket. And the free throw.
Let's play some effing defense.
by PB @ BON on Dec 29, 2007 12:37 PM CST 0 recs
JAMES AND ONE AGAIN
James is carrying us on both ends of the floor. He's the MVP if we win this game.
And he makes the FT.
Winning 54-52, 6:40 left in game.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:37 PM CST 0 recs
Once again we're not rebounding
Great block by James, but they consistently get the ball back.
This is a chess game. Their strengths are our weaknesses and vice versa. They came back because they're using their strength with the slow tempo, rebounding, and size.
We have to speed the game up.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:40 PM CST 0 recs
winning 58-56
Easy baskets galore. Their size advantage is killing us. I know we say this every time, but it can't be said enough. We freaking need Gary Johnson!
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:42 PM CST 0 recs
DJ LAYUP AND 1
60-56 FT pending. Great drive by Augustin. We need more of this. They can't stop our speed, so we need to run.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:43 PM CST 0 recs
Crap call
That kid slid under DJ after he'd already left the floor for a layup. Terrible call
by PB @ BON on Dec 29, 2007 12:45 PM CST 0 recs
terrible charge call
he was still moving AND directly under the basket.
by billyzane on Dec 29, 2007 12:45 PM CST 0 recs
Ugh horrible call!
DJ called for an offensive foul I thought was bullshit! That should've been another DJ and one. Huge break for UW.
But hopefully DJ doesn't stop driving. That's what he does best, and he needs to step it up in the scoring department.
Butch is demolishing us inside. I don't even think Gary would stop him. Too tall. Only Wangmene could stop him because of his long arms.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:46 PM CST 0 recs
Fuckin pathetic
Still angry about the call. In the NBA, that'd definitely be a blocking foul because he was under the basket!
Maybe they should use that circle in college too.
61-60, 2:45 left.
What do you know? Another off. rebound and layup.
TIMES 2! UW now up 62-61 on another off. rebound and put back by Butch.
OK now we're up 63-62 on a DJ drive and layup.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:48 PM CST 0 recs
Boy talk about a trap game
Sometimes you have to throw away the rankings and home court and just look at the matchups.
Their superior size and rebounding is dominating us.
It's 63-62, 1:33 left.
Over the back foul on Connor and they're in the bonus.
BUT THEY MISS front end of 1 and 1! Huge break.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:51 PM CST 0 recs
they're not dominating us on the boards
i think they're up 1.

The stats don't show it
But they have 14 off rebs, and a lot late.
I bet the 2nd half stats would reflect that. The overall rebs stat doesn't suggest domination, but it's been that at least now.
I'm sure the 2nd chance points favors them. Heavily.

Jesus
I can see why it's so easy for them to score inside. Abrams was stuck trying to guard a posting up Landry. That basically sums up why UW is in this game.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:54 PM CST 0 recs
65-54, 11.3 secs left
AJ with 2 FTs.
WOW missed first FT.
UW should go for the win if I'm them. AJ makes 2nd, so we're up 66-64.
I'd shoot a three with Bohannon if I were them.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:56 PM CST 0 recs
Embarrassment
Wisconsin goes for the three as expected and they win.
Were we out of timeouts?
Oh well. I'm not surprised. Definitely a trap game. Their size absolutely demolished us.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 12:58 PM CST 0 recs
Big 10 owns us this year
2 game losing streak after 11 game winning streak. Huh?
This is an example of how flawed a team is without size. Will Johnson cure everything? Unfortunately, I don't know...
If we face a team like this in the tournament, are we done? Sometimes it's all about matchups (actually, it always is).
We just lost to an unranked team without their best player, who's their starting PG. Think about that. Ugh. FUCK!
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 1:01 PM CST 0 recs
Justin Mason = goat
I was in favor of benching AJ and Mason starting because of his defense.
But if I'm going to talk about AJ being a liability on defense, then I must mention Mason being a liability on offense. WTF happened to this guy? He's completely lost his shot. Zero confidence, and he's not driving to the basket.
The good news about getting Johnson: hopefully I'll NEVER have to see Mason, Augustin, and Abrams on the court at the same time ever again. That's a horribly small lineup, and any big team like UW would destroy us and they did.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 1:04 PM CST 0 recs
How fitting
AJ misses a FT and that's the difference in the game. Of all people, Abrams chokes at the line. Basically describes our day.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 1:05 PM CST 0 recs
NO
so you would voluntarily allow them to tie the game? We were up by 2 points, not 3. No one fouls in that situation. No one.
Tip your cap at Flowers for draining the three and then making a heads-up senior play on defense right after that.
We deserved this loss. Our problem at the end was not fouling. It was AJ missing a FT.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 1:07 PM CST 0 recs
Disgusting
We should have gotten some time left on the clock. He step out of bounds.
by IHN on Dec 29, 2007 1:07 PM CST 0 recs
holy crap
I'm not quite sure what just happened. Our defense was absolutely atrocious against the big men. However, that takes away from a very impressive day from Damion James.
What absolutely killed me were the fakes! How many times are we going to bite?! Hopefully, the addition of Johnson will retire this 2 game skid.
Hahhaa, my favorite line during that game is.. "Damion James is a man-- an absolute man."
by longhornricky on Dec 29, 2007 1:12 PM CST 0 recs
So many things to be pissed about, BUT
lets face it. We're a pretty damn good, but flawed team. Given our schedule and the teams we've played, I'll take a 11-2 start. And this is all with horrible depth and size.
Thank you Rick Barnes for consistently challenging the team with the rough schedule. This is what we need. Not only are we playing good teams. We're playing against different styles of teams. We've played small, offensive teams like Tennessee. We've played big, defensive teams like UCLA and Wisconsin. We've played slow teams like Oral Roberts and fast, athletic teams like Michigan State. We've seen everything, and that's what helps prepare you for the tournament.
But back to the game. Think about the missed FTs, and all the missed layups we had during the game. Augustin was called for two absolutely horrible offensive fouls in the game, with one being very late that SHOULD'VE been an and 1. We gave up so many offensive rebounds, but I don't know if there's anything we could do about that.
Mason did nothing on offense, and Connor had his second straight ineffective game. I thought DJ should've been a little more aggresive on offense. He did drive a lot more late in the game, and we probably win if it wasn't for that horrible call. asdfoiyuawserlkjsdf!
by goingforthecorner on Dec 29, 2007 1:20 PM CST 0 recs
you only foul in that situation
if you're up by 3
especially on a 1 and 1
and the way we were rebounding
that would've been the same as giving them the 3
the smartest thing to do would've been to take aj out of that line up
on the defensive end for the final
but we'll learn
there's lot of room for improvement
and as a team we can go from there
and we have a coach that's not satisfied with the results
so i doubt he'll accept this kinda loss
by abcdmetrius on Dec 29, 2007 1:24 PM CST 0 recs

wouldn't have accepted this even if we won the game.

which i find is damn awesome
we complain about new things each game
which is great ... seriously
i know you can't just bench colt after every int or fumble
but other than jamaal charles in football who was held
accountable for their mistakes?
this team we're watching, will grow, learn and be better
he'll get the most out of them
and while we can watch and be disappointed with the results
i don't think we'll have unrealistic expectations and big let downs
i'm geeked
games like this happen
and had the guy not made a damn dennis rodman level intelligence play
shoot ... who knows
