Jamaal Charles: "I will be back"

Time to celebrate folks.

Star-divide

From Kirk Bohls:

Assuming Jamaal Charles does return to Texas, give him 25-30 carries a game. The junior tailback told me after the Holiday Bowl that he was returning to school for his senior season, in part because he didn't have a spectacular performance in the game and didn't think he'd be drafted by an NFL club until the second or possibly third round. Return, and he could advance to first-round status.

"I will come back," Charles said. "Maybe I'll be up for the Heisman. I want to top the national leaders in rushing and be up there with the most touchdowns. I want to work twice as hard and be a leader."

It sounds good, but I thought Durant was coming back too...

Even with JC back...

I still think we're a 2-3 loss team next year.

If Sam Bradford has a Sophomore Colt year next year, we could beat OU. If there's no sophomore slump, I think the Sooners make it two in a row.

We will lose one of the two games against Missouri and Kansas. Right now I'd say Missouri. The game comes right after Dallas. By the time we head to Lawrence, I think Mack and co. will have made all the usual adjustments brought on by a loss, and will have plenty of tape on KU to prepare for that game.

No way the Aggies get three in a row, but games in Boulder and home against the Cowboys are potential landmines. And remember the last time the Piggies came to town?

As Kirk says, we need Holiday Bowl Mack to stick around for the entire 2008 season. We need a new DC. We need a new Roy Williams/Limas Sweed. We need Jamaal to have a Heisman-caliber season. We need Colt to stop trying to be Superman. We need the O-Line to gel, and stay healthy. We need someone to step up to fill the massive hole left in the D-Line by the departure of Okam and Lokey. That's a lot of "needs".

I'm not booking flights to Tempe just yet. Now 2009, that's another story.

I don't know

Next year is going to be one of the toughest schedules in MB era. We must run the table in the non-conference schedule. Must.

I don't think the piggies can beat us. They are going to lose McFadden and if we just run the ball and give it to JC we win.

The three big 12 north teams are going to be significant upgrades over last year. Colorado could catch us looking ahead but we are the better team and we should win. I don't see us losing to KU or Mizzou. KU was fluke this year and they just don't have the athletes to hang with us. The game is at Lawerence, so that could give us problems but i think we pull it through.

Mizzou on the other hand can beat us if we don't play really well. The key with that game is that it is after the OU game. If we beat OU then the team will have a concentration problem and focus problem, but if we lose then we definitley win the game. Mizzou is just not physical enough to beat us. We just can't get behind against Mizzou. We must establish a running game and give the ball to JC. If there is anything to learn from Mack is he truly doesn't let a team beat him twice.

I just don't OSU beating us. We have a mental edge over them and Mack is going to make sure that we come out fast after the last couple of years. Remember the last time OSU came to Austin, one of the most dominating performances in the last couple of years. The one game that i think we are due to lose is the Tech game. That game scares me every year and its going to be in Lubbock. I don't know but i think we might lose that game. Tech gives us problems every year and we just don't know how to defend them.

Like you said, A&M is not going to ambush us three years in a row. It is not going to be happening.

Like every season, the entire season depends on how we play against OU. We beat them and Miami (next years title game) here we come.  We lose then I don't know what will happen. I think we go either go 10-2 (loss to OU and some team ambushes us a la Tech, KU, or Mizzou) or we go 11-1 with a loss to either Mizzou, or KU. I just don't see us running the table.

The whole key will be the OU game. If JC truly is coming back then the biggest weakness will be the wideouts. We won't have a Roy Williams/Limas Sweed to stretch the defenses. I love Shipley, and Quan but they are slow and the only get deep on Colt's scrambles. Some young guy must emerge and step up. It looks like the receiving core could be the biggest weakness of the team.

Receivers

Funny how this year's "big strength" has become our most serious weakness.

If we get quality utilisation by the coaches and performance from JC for 12 games look out!!!  Working Chiles into the rotation is an absolute imperative, especially assuming that his passing skill will develop somewhat and make the JCx2 combo a monster.

The schedule will be tough but it will all depend on attitude and player development.  OU will be better than us next year but certainly not the point where a win won't be a real possibility.  The Missouri follow up will be very dangerous but, as has been said, this will certainly be a game we are capable of winning.  Kansas is no fluke but a very well coached team that consistently executed up to its capabilities against a very weak schedule.  They were exposed against the athletes of Missouri but even then were able to catch up once they got used to the speed in the second half.  We will need to play well against them but are the better team and should be able to prevail.

In general, barring injuries and assuming the development of a credible home run threat at WR and the LBS and DBs we should be at least 10-2, possibly 11-1 and I don't think an undefeated regular season can be ruled out alhtough I would be surprised to see it.  Even a one loss season featuring a Big XII title should probably get us into the BCSCG but frankly I dobut our chances in a prospective matchup with Florida/Georgia/USC (Huge question at QB there but they have to  be in the picture).
