aTm vs. Louisville

I,for one, am rooting for aTm. Helps legitimize  the Big 12 conference.Takes away from the "Big East" and in general helps UT. I want us to play aTm in the semi's. If this was ou, I would not be saying this. Call me a hypocrite, but ou sucks.

I'm torn on this
Normally, I would agree with you all the way.  But since that hack Simmons has been bashing on Barnes, I've heard of ags jumping on the bandwagon.  Which aggravates me to no end.  I would take pleasure in watching this team go down before reaching the sweet 16

Im looking at this
solely as a benefit to UT..I could really care less what those sheepfuckers do off the court.  Them winning makes us look good, period........

we split the regular season series
although i think the consensus has been that A&M has the deeper more balanced team (had typed "better team", but had to delete it).  we didn't get the play the rubber in OK City, so the last thing we have is who goes farther in the tourney.  i really hope A&M does well and represents the big xii as a winner, but i really hope they don't go any farther than us, which is to say, i hope we beat them in the final four to go to the national championship game.

atm
All this "makes us look better" crap makes me sick.  The only thing that makes us look good is if we go far in the tournament.

If A&M goes far in the tournament and we don't, there isn't going to be anyone saying, "See how good Texas is because A&M is in the final four."  Conference allegiance is worthless.

I couldn't agree more with the
importance of UT going far into the tournament. As far as your "Conference allegiance is worthless" statement, I want to pose a few questions.

1.Why do we have conferences?
2.Why do we have strength of schedule as a
  factor in determining tournament eligibility?
3.Why are there Major/Mid Major conferences?

I want to beat the "Sheepfuckers" in the semi's,
if not,I hope they play Kansas in the Championship game. (KU winning of course.)
I realize this might hurt recruiting, but in my opinion, only in the short run.

conferences
I wasn't aware that strength of schedule ratings were based on the previous year's tournament.

They're worthless in the sense that it makes no difference how far other teams in your conference advance.  The seedings have already been determined, so why does it matter?

by Jason Mayer on Mar 16, 2007 3:04 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I understand dealing with the present,
but eventually even VY leaves, and at that point, even with a freshman QB, Texas still was highly rated.

I guess it is a perception of being good over the long haul that I'm looking for. I guess in your opinion we should schedule weak teams to improve our W/L record.

Following football,as I know you do, will they have a preseason Top 25 in August for College Football. If so, how did they arrive at the ratings.

Jason, I'm not a Basketball Buff at all, I'm just very much a UT man. Anything (Except ou) that will put UT in a position to achieve greatness is what we all want. Losing KD would hurt UT, but a strong performance by UT will help next year. A strong performance by the rest of the conference will also help UT in the future.

but
basketball is so fluid and such a long season that preseason rankings don't mean anything.  conference perceptions are formulated over the course of the season, not based on last year's tournament performance.

No one was ever saying after 2003, ooh look out for the big 12, they had two teams in the final four.  It doesn't work that way.

by Jason Mayer on Mar 16, 2007 6:32 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Question is how do
they arrive at the preseason rankings. Surely, returning letterman, recent performance(Prior Year),incoming Recruits(KD) has some bearing on the polls.

Do you not agree that some conferences are noted as Basketball powerhouses (ACC). Would it hurt for us to root for our conference. Would this attract some out of state recruits.

Like I said earlier though, I would never, and have never rooted for "o fucking u", so call me a hypocrite on that one.

You make good points Jason, but not good enough to change my opinion.

my ideal scenario:
Teams are tied 72-72 with 0.1 second left and gillispie gets a technical because of his fucking smirk! god, please?

Hard to put this in writing, but ....
... I will probably be pulling for A&M.  There is something to being part of a strong conference that adds to a team's prestige, especially when you have contended for the title.  Shows you can play with the best.  Anyway, call it state pride, but I'll be glad to see the Ags do well, so long as it is not at our expense.  Because I agree with you, I would never be this generous with o.u.

Big-XII so lacking in respect...
....in the east and among the power B-ball schools, we always need our teams to perform well. I'll gladly pull for A&M and have them in my Final-4.

Things are opening up before them. Slow thinking Ohio State is about to pull one of their usual chokes.
