A comparison of the two players in undeniable. It was even a main story line by CBS going into this weekend's game with the Trojans, could KD do for the basketball team what VY did for the football team? There is a lot in common such as:
- freakishly phenomenal players with superhuman physical ability
- leadership qualities that makes everyone around them play better
- incredible character that makes fans proud to call them longhorns
Arguably Vince could have left after the first Rose Bowl victory when he stole the show on a national stage. He would have been a first round pick becuase of his upside, even if there were questions about his throwing abilities at the time. And he was actually a junior even though he had only played two years so I argue physically there was nothing wrong with the guy. But the extra year he stayed to develop himself physically and mentally really paid off. Yes he left after the national championship but, as proven by his performance this year in the NFL, the guy was at the top of his game and was not going to get much else from another year at Texas.
I think the same is true for Durant. He is an extremely talented player who could do well in the NBA as soon as next year. BUT I don't feel like he's at the top of his game yet. If he did stay another year and developed physically and mentally, then when unleashed on the NBA he would tear it up like an Arthur Anderson executive with Enron documents.
Maybe this is more of a rant, but if Kevin is the second coming of VY reincarnated as a basketball player, then my bet is he stays one more year. Here's to hope.
