Gregory Gazelles Start Spring Season with a Win

The UT volleyball team won 3 out 5 games against Notre Dame to begin the spring season today at Gregory Gym. Notre Dame finished last season tied for 3rd in the Big East. They qualified for the NCAAs but lost in the first round to Wisconsin (the team Texas dispatched in Austin). If this had been a regular season game UT would have won it 3-1, but due to this being spring practice the teams played the 5th game.  Destinee Hooker, doing double duty as volleyball and track star, was only available for the first two games as she had to leave (presumably to go high jump).

Expectations are sky high for the volleyball team after last year's Elite Eight finish.  The team returns 5 of 7 starters from their starting rotation.  Making up for the loss of middle blocker, Jen Todd, will be the return of All-American middle blocker Brandy Magee from an ACL injury.  In the fall, the team will welcome to campus the #2 and #3 rated recruits in the country.

Next Saturday, the team leaves the confines of Gregory Gym to do some sand volleyball play at Zilker Park from 9am to 2pm.
