Texans Realise Mistake?
Just finally catching up on my reading after some time away from the computer on vacation, so I must be the last guy to hear that the Texans finally admitted that Carr was not a franchise QB, and in so doing made a de facto admission of their 2006 draft debacle in not making VY the #1 pick in the draft. I think Matt Schaub is an interesting prospect, but with very little real playing time it's too soon to tell if he will turn out to be Brett Favre or Patrick Ramsey.
I hate seeing Vince in a Titans uniform, but I've gotten used to it. I never was much interested in the Texans franchise, but like many BON'ers I would have been an instant fan if they had drafted VY. I suppose if they start playing better ball with a new QB I might watch a game or two. But I'd rather hear from some true Texans fans what they think about this latest twist in the saga.
Kirk Bohls approves, which automatically makes me assume this was a bad move. http://www.statesman.com/sports/cont...

like the idea, if not the execution
Carr was never coming back, and Kubiak and Smith had to make a move for a new quarterback. However, operating under that assumption, why not get something for Carr in return? If Houston had traded him before trading for Schaub, they would have had greater leverage in a deal and perhaps picked up a second-day pick for Carr.
This is mostly irrelevant; the only the deal is a success is if Schaub is more like Brett Favre and less like Patrick Ramsey. Schaub's performance will also pretty much be the barometer for the Kubiak/Smith regime...

Hefty Price
Last year Houston could have had Young for the price of one first round pick. They also would have been in a position to get some value from another team for David Carr. One year later, Houston will spend two second round draft picks and drop two spots in the first round (from 8 to 10). Oh...and Houston was in a bind and had to release Carr for no value received.
I do think Schaub is a good acquisition, but Young is a newer model, with fewer miles, that cost less to acquire.

i didn't think the Texans could look any dumber
because it shouldn't get worse than making the worst draft decision ever.
i can't even adequately express my hatred for the incompetence and arrogance in Houston. they have taken over as my least favorite team in any pro-sport.
aside from that Schaub is better than Carr, but whoTF cares b/c neither are in the same category as VY.

VY will never be a Texan..
... so yeah, this was a good deal. I can speak for most Texans fans when I say that Carr should not be on our roster next year. Good luck to him. The Texans actually did him a favor by releasing him. They could have held onto him till later in the offseason. He might have been a good QB but the Texans screwed him early on and never got him the coaches and personnel to help him succeed. OTOH, he was never a leader for the team and lacked the kind of work ethic you would expect from a first pick in the draft.
Two second round picks and the 8 for 10 may turn out to be a steep price for a QB that's unproven but that's where we are. The biggest mistake was giving Carr the extension last year and then not drafting either of the two best players in the draft.
I figure the Texans will get a WR or DB in the first round. They may be able to trade down and get an extra pick. Andre Johnson needs help since E. Moulds was released. Our secondary isn't competitive talent-wise and the lack of a decent pass rush helps expose them. Ahman Green may be serviceable, if healthy, for the next two years at least.
Like other Longhorn and Texan fans, I'm resigned to the fact that VY is in Tennessee. We nearly beat them twice last year without VY and we'll be more competitive this time around.

There are no words to describe
the idiocy of the Texans management. None. There are no comparisons, only cloudy attempts to to draw a picture that can allow people to see clearly what they have done.
The reprecussions won't be felt for years, but the tremors are in place. This will go down as the dumbest decision on any draft day ever. Yes, it eclipses chosing Sam Bowie over Hakeem and Jordan.

minor correction
Hakeem was chosen #1, Sam Bowie #2
(#3 Jordan, #? Barkley and #? Stockton)

Think Mike Ditka and the Saints.......
Even though they got Ricky Williams, they gave up every draft pick to get him.
Jimmy Johnson with Cowboys gave Minnesota Herschel walker for 2-4 of Minnesotas 1st round draft picks for several years. The cowboys ended up drafting there team of the 90's ie.. 3 Super Bowls.
I'll add them to your list because the Texans did screw up.....
