Texas Football Spring Scrimmage Open Thread
Just spoke to PB, who is down at DKR. He, like all of us, is eagerly awaiting the beginning of the scrimmage.
Yes, it's just a scrimmage and it's just an hour, but this will be our first look at next year's Longhorns. How sharp will Jamaal Charles and running game look? Can the new members of the offensive line protect Colt McCoy? How green will the secondary look?
If you are around a tv, tune into Fox Sports Southwest at 12 noon and post your comments here.

Poor TV Coverage early
Fox Sports spends time jawing on the sidelines about nothing and misses most of first drive. Apparently, Colt goes 3/4 but drive ends with only a FG.
This time last year
I never thought having Colt under center would be such a comforting thought.
Right now, he is the man.
Knee jerk total premature thoughts
the back-up RBs are impressive and solid.
The defense has an extra layer of depth and athleticism. Credit goes to Mack for not burning shirts last year when things got dicey.
Can't see the broadcast right now....
Can anyone tell me what formation the O is running??
Specifically, please tell me that we are not running zone-read 90% of the time...please, please tell me this is not the case.
Been saying it for a year
I think he was recruited as a WR. Strange how these things work out.
More knee jerk
the LBs are finally covering better.
In theory, it should take pressure off the safeties to cover too much acreage.
Knee jerk part III
Chiles just isn't ready yet.
If the coaches want to pretend it is nip and tuck with Harris, then thats fine. They can use that ploy to help them compete and elevate their game.
But right now, Chiles isn't even close to being ready.
Maybe this time next year Chiles will be making that leap, but at this moment, the seperation b/w he and Harris is like the Grand Canyon.
Oh fine
NOW he looks good, makes me eat my words and scores a TD with his legs.
Still, Harris is the sensible choice.
Very nice run by Chiles
off the zone read. Good burst, made some people miss, and finished strong at the goal line.
There you go EOB
Harris shows he's got a burst as well. About 60 yards on his own zone read, untouched.
I'm a flip flopper today
vive le Sherrod Harris!
They have found the back-up.
just finished watching it
-made me miss the days of well done zone read. that end crashes down and the qb is gone for 6.
i think it is good the backup qb's are proving they too can find the endzone to keep Colt motivated.
which also makes me wonder about us playing multiple qbs. people generally have a fundamental problem with a 2 qb system, and understandably so for Longhorns, but florida won a MNC doing it and although it seemed ridiculous/transparent at times the Leak/Tebow combo proved to be potent.
-it is too hard to tell anything really about the Defense when they aren't allowed to blitz. it seemedl like the secondary and maybe the team as a whole did well tackling.
-the only way the Fox coverage of the game could have been worse was if they had Andre Ware.
lol
-the only way the Fox coverage of the game could have been worse was if they had Andre Ware.
Sadly, I'm not sure even that would have made it worse...
It looked like an amateur tryout tape for announcers. Constantly focusing on meaningless sideline interviews and construction updates while the scrimmage went on in the background. Seemed like the actual part we all cared about - the play on the field, the young guys, the position changes - was more like an irritant to them, getting in the way of finding out how Cedric Griffin's life had changed now that he's in the NFL...
Plus - would it kill them to actually identify some of the players??? Didn't have a program or anything, so I was stuck trying to read the names on the jerseys - which is harder than you might think when they're busy getting back to a sideline interview...
