Horns Get Some Love - NCAA #3 seed?

CBS Sportsline (i.e. take this with a huge box of salt) has Texas as a #3 seed.

There can't be anything bad about a higher seed, right?

the conference tourneys are off to a crazy start
Depending on how far-reaching the upsets go, and how well we do in the Big XII tourney, we could seed anywhere from 2 to 6.  Or is that too wide a stretch?  It's late in New York ...

Anything could happen, I suppose
Texas could possibly move up to a 3 seed if the Aggies are upset by the Cowboys tomorrow and Texas goes on to win the tourney.  I don't see them making it up to a 2. So I think anywhere from a 3 to a 6 could just be possible.

But UCLA lost yesterday, so they now drop off the 1 seed line, to be replaced by UNC or Florida, if they win their conference tourney.

Bruins
UCLA will stll receive a #1 seed. They will likely be #1 in the RPI after this weekend as well.

The only way they don't get a #1 is if Kansas, Carolina, Florida, and Ohio State/Wisconsin all win their conference tournaments. Possible but not likely. One of them is bound to go down.

I'd say the odds are close to 100%
Florida demolished Georgia 74-57
UNC demolished FSU 73-58
tOSU held off Michigan 72-62
Wisconsin beat MSU 70-57

Both tOSU and Wisconsin should take care of their next opponents easily (poor Kelvin, his team couldn't get past the Illini last night), so one of those two teams will win the Big 10.

Both Tennessee and Kentucky are out in the SEC, I doubt Florida has much trouble with Mississippi and either Mississippi State or Arkansas.

UNC has the toughest road to a tourney championship, taking on BC tonight, but BC struggled to hold off Miami in OT, and if UNC gets past the Eagles they get either NC State or Va. Tech.  Hardly a daunting prospect, regardless of who wins that semifinal.  I expect an all-Carolina ACC final, and I expect Roy Williams to win his first ACC tourney title.

That leaves Kansas.  And after the Horns' performance against Baylor last night, I don't see us stopping them from winning another Big XII tourney title.

So like PB says, there's not a team west of the Rockies that scares me right now, and I think UCLA drops to a 2.

Question For You
Do your beloved Hoyas replace the Aggies as a 2 seed if they beat Pitt and win the Big East?

G'town
Right now, I'd go with

#1 Florida, Ohio State, UCLA, Kansas
#2 Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, G'town, North Carolina,
#3 Texas A&M, Memphis, ___, and ___.

Others could be S. Illinois or Oregon.

ipod omen
this morning when i took off to run the first song that came up on ipod shuffle was:

silversun pickups - "three seed"

so i'd say it's as good as a lock.

hmm
I say lose to BU - 6 seed
Lose to A&M/OKST - 5 Seed
Beat A&M/OKST    - 4 Seed
Win Big 12       - 3 Seed

i think...
we're out of the realm of a 6-seed or lower, especially with everyone else losing across the country.  bracketology has us as a 4-seed right now, and i pretty much agree with that.  if we lose today, the worst we do is a 5, in my opinion.

if we win today and don't lay a total egg against a&m, we get a 4.  we'll be borderline 3/4 if we beat a&m, and then i have no idea.  probably not getting above a 3 though.

selection committee
Texas is a media darling right now (gotta love watching KD), so everyone's probably seeding us fairly high (2 or 3 is huge stretch).

Does the selection committee have the same kind of bias though?

USC Just Upset Washington State
So the seeds may still be in flux.  AW last prediction:

No. 1: UCLA, North Carolina, Ohio State, Kansas
No. 2: Florida, Wisconsin, Memphis, Texas A&M
No. 3: Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Washington State, Maryland
No. 4: Southern Illinois, Nevada, UNLV, Tennessee

My prediction, pending the outcome of tonight's games (I'm assuming Texas beats OSU, Oregon beats USC and G-Town beats Pitt):

No. 1: Florida, North Carolina, Ohio State, Kansas
No. 2: UCLA, Wisconsin, Memphis, Georgetown
No. 3: aTm, Pittsburgh, Texas, Oregon
No. 4: Southern Illinois, Louisville, UNLV, Maryland
