Morning Coffee
The UT SID announced that there will be a 4:00 p.m. press conference today from Kevin Durant. As reported here yesterday, he's expected to announce his departure to the NBA. Despite everything I've heard from sources telling me he's gone, there's no way I won't be tuned in, hoping to see a Ricky Williams repeat. The presser will be carried live on 1300 AM here in Austin.
Durant may be headed to the pros, but everyone else on the Longhorn hoops team (except Craig Winder) is expected to return. Rick Barnes' young squad held their annual team banquet last night, where Durant and DJ Augustin shared co-MVP honors. Dexter Pittman was honored as the team's Most Improved.
Texas baseball is off until Friday, but Bradley Suttle was busy chatting with fans at TexasSports.com. Among the topics discussed: the lucrative forklift business and Suttle's between-innings insulin pump usage. Certainly worth browsing the chat transcript.
Texas and Big 12 baseball fans will want to check out Corn Nation's weekly conference wrap-up.
C&CM has notes from the OU Red and White Scrimmage on Saturday. It's always good to know thy foe, Longhorn fans.
Joe, his brother-in-law and I had fun tailgating before the Texas spring game, but the Georgia boys really did it right.
Last, but not least, a note reminding you to keep your offseason eye on Sunday Morning Quarterback, who really does provide an oasis of interesting offseason reading for the truly addicted. This would be an appropriate time to note that I had the pleasure of hosting SMQ this past weekend during his visit to Austin. He's as enjoyable to hang out with in person as he is to read on the internet. And easy to beat at chess.

Oh yes, Billy
Quite a lot. It was a rager, as far as chess goes.

Guilty
We went out for excellent food, but didn't do the whole sixth street thing. SMQ is a man of good taste and prefers dive bars anyway. We went to Showdown.

I have been looking of C&CM
for mention of the upcoming meeting with the NCAA or what he thinks of it, but have seen nothing. Is he in denial?

Nothing New
There has been nothing new develop over this story. Until something does there is no need to rehash it over and again.
I’m definitely not worried sick over it. They will most likely lose a few scholarships but nothing in the way of a television or bowl probation. Here are the last two posts I've made on the situation giving my opinion.

Thanks
Obviously I did not look very well in the first place.
Do you think the following penalties are a little soft:
*OU prohibited athletes from working at Big Red through at least the 2008-09 school year.
*OU disassociated a booster from the program for at least five years. Although the school's release did not name former Big Red general manager Brad McRae, he was Bomar's and Quinn's supervisor.
Maybe Norman is a small place so it is hard to find work for the football team, but why not just indefinably ban players from working at Big Red Sports?
Say what you will about DMN's journalistic practices, but where there is smoke.
Not that OU will get caught, when you have been cheating for over a hundred years, you know how to cover it up.
Here is your second link, I could not get the above one to work:

Not Really
McRae was the driving force behind the scandal and not only lost his job over it but the dealership was sold and is under new ownership. So there is no reason for a probation of employment to be any longer than it is.
As far as McRae's ban from the program I would satisfied to see it be for life.

Did not know that either
I agree then, don't punish the new owners, but McRae should be banned for life.

Durant would prefer to stay
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/...
"In Durant's case, one source felt the decision was imminent. A word of caution, though. As the Julian Wright case shows, kids can change their mind, and both Oden and Durant would prefer to remain in school another year."
Some interesting insight on his agent and other news.

Know Thy Enemy, Part Two
Interesting to note that Keller wasn't just the rubber-stamp starter. But this bit caught my eye: "... the Cornhuskers' spring scrimmage Saturday, which is expected to draw more than 70,000 fans."
70k fans?? Seriously? These people LOVE their football!
And some amusing tidbits from our in-state "rivals":
"Quarterbacks Stephen McGee and Jerrod Johnson struggled at the beginning of their first scrimmage, combining to misfire on their seven pass attempts."
'Tech coach Mike Leach stirred up what he called a quarterback controversy after strong work this spring by backup Taylor Potts. "Taylor Potts has outperformed Graham Harrell in the last two practices, so the quarterback situation is wide open." '

Overlooked this last week
My least-favorite coach in the womens' basketball game got an extension of her contract, AND a raise, after UT hired Coach G last week. She's now "locked in" at Baylor for the next 10 years, although we all know how water-tight coaching contracts are these days.
"In her seven years as coach, she has created a winning tradition in women's basketball that has brought positive recognition to Baylor," Lilley said in a prepared statement. "She is a person of integrity who is committed to success at the highest level of competition. We expect that Kim will be with Baylor for a long time."
I've never questioned Mulkey's integrity. I just can't stand her style. But it looks like we'll be stuck with her - and her fellow Drama Queen at OU - for the foreseeable future. My only consolation is that it will be glaringly obvious the difference in the quality and character and style of coaching between Baylor and Texas every time Mulkey and Coach G face off across from each other at the Erwin Center. And I think their teams will reflect that. I'm hopeful their results will as well.
