Mandel does a great blog entry on a recent Nick Saban episode, for those interested. It also includes a bit about Major as the O-Coordinator.
Mandel is one my favorite college writers, because he isn't overdramatic, genuinely loves college football, keeps things light and uses humor. He doesn’t try to wow his readers with fake heavy handed football jargon. Too many columnists, especially covering the NFL, try to validate their points with attempts to impress us with their football IQ. Mandel keeps it real and makes clear common sense observations. He’ll admit when he doesn’t know something.
Anyway, if you don't read Mandel you are missing out.
Here is a snippet:
- "SI.com: [Former Texas QB] Major Applewhite is a young guy [28] who I'm sure most college football fans still remember as a player. Now he's an offensive coordinator in the SEC. Can you talk about what went into your decision to hire him?" *
