Texas Rebounds Against Nebraska
Adrian Alaniz struck out 10 Cornhuskers in 7 1/3 innings, Kyle Russell hit his NCAA-leading 22nd home run to extend his UT single season record, and the Longhorns came alive in Lincoln to beat Nebraska 8-4. Randy Boone got the final four outs to keep Texas in front.
Russell got things started in the first inning when he homered to right field (following a Chance Wheeless single) to put Texas up 2-0. Nebraska battled back to take a 4-2 lead through three innings, but Alaniz was near-unhittable after that. Texas would pick up three runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth, and a final run in the 9th to improve to 13-4 in Big 12 play.
The Longhorns will try to win the series in Lincoln tomorrow afternoon with Joseph Krebs taking the mound.

ESPNU
the game is televised today on ESPNU, I think.
Big game for the Huskers, probably the biggest in a while. We're hurting in pitching today - we've had some issues with the third pitcher - brains, body, all that stuff.
I hope we win. I hope you lose. You can afford it. We cannot.
So it goes.

oh
at least you might like this story one of our guys at Corn Nation wrote about how we castrated you Friday night.
Personally, I wouldn't have chosen to be that cocky (pun intended), but it doesn't appear that you guys care enough anyway.
I have to ask one thing. As one of the best college baseball program in the nation over the past 10 year (since Augie) - is it that you don't care because winning college baseball doesn't give you the ego boost that football and/or basketball does?
Or is it seriously because you guys don't like baseball?

I actually do care about baseball.
but just like regular season MLB, any team can lose to anyother team, any time. Unlike football where the better team wins most of the time or even basketball where this is true in baseball, one loss is not as big a deal or as unexpected.
I care enough
that your posts are annoying the fuck out of me. So I'm reading PB's baseball coverage and from now on I'm not going to read anymore of your stuff because you're constantly accusing me of not caring, and claiming that makes you a better fan, or person, or something. And that's just sad and lame. I'm grateful of the new format because now I can see that a post is yours, not click on it, and not have to read it.
that was the purpose
just seeing if anyone was paying attention.
well, and to annoy the fuck out of you. just you, though. :)

Corn
You have to understand the demographics between people who post on blogs and people who follow baseball religiously.
They're two separate groups, with little mixed in.
Texas has a huge baseball following, but theyre mostly older and dont rush back to their computer to talk about the games. They talk about it in the parking lot over a hot gut and a lone star.
It's also the start of the basketball playoffs and the beginning of MLB season here in the state of Texas. Nebraska has, well, Nebraska baseball and spring football.

follow up
attendance averages from ncaa.org. 2007 might be the only year Nebraska beats Texas in attendance, but thats because we've got construction going on reducing our capacity to ~4700 until they finish.
2006
- Texas 5,380
- Nebraska 5,092
2005
- Texas 5,241
- Nebraska 4,984
2004
- Texas 5,193
- Nebraska 3,700
2003
- Texas 4,973
- Nebraska 4,299
2002
- Texas 4,539
- Nebraska 4,119
2001
- Texas 4,311
- Nebraska 2,707
.
I'm not quite sure what you want from bloggers. Theres just not that much to talk about when not everyone can watch the games.

As a follow up
Yesterday was the first road game I've been able to watch. They're just not on TV. I do tune in to Craig Way on the radio for most road games, but it's not quite the same as seeing the game.
i want
to build a market.
What - you wait around for the market? Or you build one? The games aren't on TV, but they will be. hell, if they can put people scratching their asses (okay, maybe Pam Anderson scratching her ass) on TV, then don't you think that College Baseball will be following sometime soon?
What do you want? sit around, complain, wait for someone else?
You want to make sugared battery acid, or you want to change the world? :)

Kyle Russell
home run hitting machine. Just got another 2 run dinger.

number 23 just happened
Good lord. I was hoping this would happen, because I know the Nebraska stadium is one in which homers can happen.
By the way, I forgot to mention before, but I usually argue on the side of Augie as opposed to PB, when it comes to the bunting. But in that first game, when we were down 5 to zip, and, with a man on first, Kyle Russell bunted, I almost lost my shit. He popped that bunt up and didn't advance the runner. But even if he had sacrificed successfully, I couldn't believe that Augie was having Russell bunt down 5 runs. I was so pissed, I realized I may agree with PB more than I thought.
he was trying
ot get his guys going. you know that, right?
it's a way of saying 'if you can't do small things right what are you going to do with the big things?

Corn wins this one since it wont count.
With Texas up 6-2, the skies open up. With the Big 12 hour rule, my guess is we wont finish this one.
So we won't get the win and they wont get the loss.
So Kyle is still on 22 home runs if this one doesnt go in the books?
by the other Andrew on Apr 22, 2007 1:05 PM CDT reply actions
that's interesting
not sure. I'll guess we'll watch.
will it matter? He's still kicking ass, leading the nation
you guys have a great team. it's a matter of how far you go in the CWS. It's a matter of us getting to the CWS for us.

delayed
It doesn't sound like we're going to have a game today.
and if I know Augie, he's already called the Nebraska baseball office six times to ask if we'll pay for the Longhorns to stay overnight in a nice hotel, knowing that we won't.
So... unfortunately, we probably won't see a full series.

Radar Screen
Craig Way reporting that the weather appears to be moving out...
Fingers crossed.
Krebs gets through 5 innings
This game is official, even if the rain returns.
Russell's homer will count.
6-2 still
man, i'm in a mood today.

Oh oh
Cocky volleyball fans from Lincoln, now we got cocky baseball fans? What's the world coming to.
BTW, the other Andrew, volleyball regularly outdraws baseball at NU by something like 3 to 1. Can you imagine anywhere else in the country where that happens?
So, cornnation, not only does Texas own you in baseball this season, but your own volleyball team does as well. Every season.
"Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here. "

oh for crying out loud
I was having a day, you limey bastard. You ever had a bad day? Oh, never online? Well, that's the difference, then.
I'm confused. You saying that your volleyball team could beat up our baseball team? I'd pay to see that. :)
And you're not far off at that comment about 'getaway' day. :)

Krebs through six now
Nice to get six strong out of Joseph today. Texas still up 6-2, with Wheeless, Russell, and Suttle due up in the top of the 7th
3 up 3 down
Boone in now, 6 outs to a series win.

in other news, tornadoes hit my home area last night, tearing the hell out of things. one house was lifted and thrown, people are okay, but house is destroyed. several other farms were demolished.
my in-laws had commented that they thought the lights had gone out at the town nearest them because at one point they'd looked out their windows and couldn't seen the town.
The power had never gone out. It was an on-ground tornado that had passed.....

In other action...
Looks like Texas will stay 2.5 to 3 games clear of the field in the Big XII, as currently OSU appears likely to take only 2 of 3 in their series with Aggies, maybe lose the series if the Aggies rally from only a run down. Mizzou probably sweeps Baylor to stay on Texas' heels, but they still have to come to the Disch to play us.
In top 10 action:
#1 Vandy is on the verge of sweeping Tennessee
#2 UNC may hold on to take 1 of 3 from #3 FSU
#4 USC has lost 2 of 3 to Ole Miss, in danger of a sweep
#6 Rice will sweep UCF
#7 Arkansas takes 2 of 3 from Georgia
#8 UVA takes 2 of 3 from Clemson
#9 OSU is playing a meaningless series with UNLV
#10 Arizona has stumbled at WSU, losing one of two and trailing in the third game
Not sure Rice will pass Texas this week, given that we played a ranked team on the road and took 2 of 3. With UNC and USC tanking, Texas moves up to #3 this week.
by patienthornsfan on Apr 22, 2007 3:03 PM CDT reply actions
we're done
Texas takes the series.
still the class of the Big 12 by a ways. Like I said, it's a mater of how much damage you can do in the CWS versus winning the Big 12.
you're on a different level than the rest of us, i think everyone knows that.
