Stewie Power Rankings Return!
My favorite college football writer, Stewart Mandel, has his updated Power Rankings after the conclusion of spring practices.
Texas comes in at 8, followed closely by Oklahoma at 9. He says our spring star was Chykie Brown, one of the many talented but unproven defensive backs. Here's hoping he's right. Nebraska is at 18, TCU at 21, and Texas A&M "on the cusp."

SI's Heisman Watch
also has Colt McCoy at 9th. Darren McFadden and Steve Slaton head up the class for now.
I can not believe
I can not believe OU is number eight in his rankings. They lost their qb, running back and some important guys on "D". I really don't see why they are in top 10.
I think they should be in top 20 maybe number 15.

Good for Texas
we want OU to be rated as high as possible.
Also, I think they get the benefit of the doubt after last year, not to mention the last 7.
Agree
I agree that it this help Texas because the higher ranked they are when we woop their ass the better it is for us.
Just looking at this objectively though you have to admit they should not be ranked this high. I guess the pollsters still believe in "Big Game Bob".

aTm on the cusp
According to Stewie...
If you read Tim Griffin over on espn.com, though, he says the Aggies will contend for the Big XII title this year.
"It wasn't the kind of play that would make many fans at Kyle Field stop and take notice.
But Texas A&M quarterback Stephen McGee's 21-yard swing pass to running back Mike Goodson that started the spring game almost made coach Dennis Franchione turn cartwheels on the field.
"We had four verticals [deep passes] called and all of them were covered," Franchione said. "Stephen checked back down and made a nice gain. Those aren't the kind of plays that catch people's eyes or break things, but they do ours."
Such maturity might be the biggest key in boosting the Aggies into Big 12 title contention for the first time since Franchione took over. A&M still is a work in progress, but as McGee improves, his team should get better with him."
No matter how much McGee improves his passing game this Spring, the Aggies are still going to live and die by the run. That's not going to be enough to get them out of the middle of the pack in the Big XII South (they'll finish behind Texas, OU, and OSU) much less contend for the championship.

Florida
My biggest issue is with Florida at # 3. Is the field that weak this year? UF has more question marks than that guy who wears the suit with all of the question marks who tells you how to get free money from the government.

A&M and OU
I always root for them to be ranked high pre-season. It just makes our schedule and thus any wins look better.
Any respect that Tech, Nebraska, and now TCU get, the better also. And not to put the cart before the horse, but whoever we play in the Big 12 champ. game.
Like we all talked about last year, with a non-conference schedule like ours, our conference has to be enough. Hopefully it will be. Hopefully if we take care of what we can control, wins, we will be fine with SOS.
If Stewie and others
would do their research they would see that TCU lost over half of their starters, will be replacing ever single skill position with a soph or freshman -- and lost the best defensive player on the team.
I'm not discounting their great coaching staff, but they'll be starting either a true freshman or newbie soph at QB.
By the end of the season they'll be good, but they are a far, far cry from the assembled cast of Boise State. ....not even close.
I love Mandel and all, but I don't understand the Horned Frog feaver sweeping the nation.
OU looked sloppy and without a QB who will make 50% of his throws. It's impossible to to know just what a team like that will be like.
