tarell brown
selected by the 49ers with the 10th pick of the 5th round. he might end up being a steal.

unless he steals something
character issues dropped him big time

Ramonce Taylor
RT could be worth consideration by any team looking to find "value" in the 7th round. Sans "baggage" and perhaps with another year under his belt, we could have been talking about a first day pick.

non-Longhorn
I also believe Titans should consider Troy Smith to avoid complete overhaul of the offense if VY is knocked out of a game or two. (I know Troy and Vince have different styles of play, but their skill sets are similar enough.)

Smith to Baltimore
A loss in the MNC game drops the guy from the first round to the end of the 5th? I bet he'll prove to be a contributor, although not at the QB position. You never know, though, given how poorly Ravens QB's have played over the years.

T Smith can play.
He'll be tutored by McNair, and become a decent QB one day. At least he's in a better situation than J-Mac, who will self destruct in Raider land. No Randy Moss? Uh oh.

T Smith can play
The loss in the championship game was put all on Troy's shoulders and he was a step slow thanks to the banquet circuit he was on after the Heisman ceremony. More of the blame should go on his O linemen who didn't stop anyone that game. Florida played their best game of the season, Ohio State their worst. While having Ted Ginn wouldn't have saved the day, but it would have forced a double team which could have given Troy more breathing room and time.
I would love to see a coach who is playing in the title game, who's player wins the Heisman step in and say, sorry Heisman, no banquet circuit until after January. Postpone your events. We have practices and preparations to take care of.
But Troy's draft stock continued to tumble when he showed up out of shape to the combine and didn't throw very good. He improved slightly at OSU pro day with an impressive 40.
I agree he should have all it takes to be a decent QB one day.
Does anyone else get annoyed with ESPN's "analysts" hyping a player and then when he doesn't get picked making a big story out of it to hype their ratings. There was a story I read online in the Columbus Dispatch today that the Browns called Brady Quinn's agent Friday night to tell him they were taking Joe Thomas with the 3rd pick.
Colin Cowherd spent January 2006 talking how it was a foregone conclusion, Brady Quinn would be the #1 player taken in the 2007 draft.
I wish i had time to write down all stupid analyst statement/proclamations and blog them so that you could track the % of the time they are actually right.
Someone on ESPN this morning said Patriots were now the odd on favorite to win the Super Bowl. What a dumbass statement.

I'll even go so far as to say
that Troy Smith can be better than nearly every other QB taken this draft. I'm not a tOSU fan, but I do think that Smith is a playmaker. Bad BCS game? Sure. But to me there are guys who look like they have "it," who can handle pressure and adversity and still be good. J-Mac? People at LSU didn't even like him as their starter, said he wasn't a big game QB, etc. As far as I can see, him being drafted at #1 is going to look like one of the biggest blunders of the decade. Smith in the 5th round will be seen as a steal 3 years from now. I wish the Cowboys had grabbed him before Baltimore.

The crazier one
to me is Drew Stanton from Michigan State. He melted down at the end of the Notre Dame game and just kept looking up at the scoreboard clock. Showed no energy. He wasn't that good in college. He is tall and has poise but I can't see him ever doing much in the NFL

Rufus Alexander
The first pick since Peterson at #7 goes to Denver almost 170 picks later. Wasn't his OU class rated higher than the Texas class back in February of 2002?

Thank God
The Texans have finally drafted a Longhorn.

Right team...
... different Longhorn. I thought they'd take Selvin.

VY gets a decent receiver to throw to
Titans take Tech's Joel Filiani.

Baylor
Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin on drafting Baylor punter Daniel Sepulveda, "I understand they punt a lot at Baylor."
funny stuff

Green Bay just took Mason Crosby
Have no idea why he was the THIRD kicker taken. The guy has a ridiculous leg.

Baseball (Texas vs. Oklahome State)
After the 6th inning, Texas is leading 4-0. Going for the sweep.
heeeeeeeeeeeeeHAAAAA!

7th inning

7-0 Final
Runners at the corners, only 1 out, and Boone gets 2 K's to seal the deal for the Horns, giving us our first shutout in Big XII play. Nice way to finish off the sweep and sew up the conference title.

They were...
Melvin Bullitt - SS
Jason Jack - DE

RB Courtney Lewis
...also waiting.
Future drafts will be stocked with Aggies. For instance, Stephen McGee's heart and un-Colt-like passion will surely make him a hands down #1 overall pick. He is the only player I can see being picked ahead of Martellus Bennett.

Stephen McGee
So you are projecting McGee to be taken as a safety in the 1st round of next years' draft?? Maybe as a WR? Just in case you didn't know, QBs in the NFL are actually asked to throw the ball.
Martellus Bennett is probably a 1st rounder. But what is going on that no Aggies got drafted this year?

No love for Sendlein or S. Young?

by SwimTexas on Apr 29, 2007 3:24 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
i think selvin will go at some point
mainly for his return skills. and i think sendlein will sign somewhere as a FA in the next few days.

Darius Walker
Think he regrets leaving Notre Dame and coming out as a junior? As far as I can tell he is still available and there are only a dozen picks to go....
by TXBuckeye on Apr 29, 2007 4:38 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
ugh
That must be a bad feeling. Then again, what could possibly make you come out if you're not even given a first day draft grade?
by whoopspat on Apr 29, 2007 5:37 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Because of his family
Darius Walker's family was not that well off financially so i guess he relize he had to go. I don't know if you guys know this but his entire family moved up with him to Notre Dame.
That says alot of how they were commited to his career and hoping that he gets to go pro. Its the same thing with one of the guys from A&M who wasn't that good but left early.

Selvin Did Not Get Drafted
It is kind of sad how Selvin Young did not get drafted but it did not surprise, injuries and fumbled to much.
Who know is if he did not get hurt but just wasn't that good.

DBs
With 3 of 4 starting DBs taken relatively early in draft, it is pretty clear that our coaching staff was the problem with last year's pass defense.
