Mack Brown seems to have no problem putting highly-prized recruits on the shelf for a year. Even the great Vince redshirted.
Redshirting must help the kids get used to going to school, but I don't know how Mack can stand having some of his best players just watching.
The 2006 recruiting class was a perfect example. Of 25 recruits, 16 redshirted. The other nine played, some quite a bit. The nine true freshman who played last year are:
So, the question for people who can't wait for football season to start is: Which true freshmen will play in 2007 and will any of them make a big impact?
Don't forget, there are 16 redshirts that we haven't seen yet. Mack almost always turns one or two of them into starters (e.g., Babino and Ulatoski).
For my guesses I am going to reach, big time. There are some true hosses in the '07 class. But I think a bunch of them will redshirt. I am going to guess that Foswhitt Whittaker and Cody Johnson both make impacts at least on special teams. I am also going with James Kirkendoll and Sam Acho. I am hoping that Curtis Brown is the cover corner that we really need. Dre Jones is going to play.
