Tommy Nobis Is Doing Good In The Hood

PB-

Not sure if y'all know this living in TX, but Tommy Nobis runs a great center in Atlanta helping people with mental and physical disabilities.

Info on the Tommy Nobis center:

http://www.tommynobiscenter.org/

I worked with them at a prior job I had in ATL and they were all great over there.  Just wanted to share that he is doing really good things in the community that y'all can be proud of.

Didn't know that

Thanks for that info, Kanu.

You gotta repost this pic in 3 days, that time without any added number!

Now that I think of it, another cool idea could have been having longhorn players for the full countdown! Their number being the days left to the end-of-boredom.

Considered it

But it would quickly become a predictable and dull exercise.

Hmm

Accompanied with some biographies and trivia could be fun. Specially for those of us who can only recognize Colt, Limas and JC. I admit that personally don't know anything about someone like Mucklroy.

But maybe you are right, it is predictable and pom girls don't have numbers.

Talking about pom girls, do you have any picture of Kay Baily Hutchinson? I think she was a cheerleader for the 63 Horns.

Am I the only one

that always reads "pom" as "porn" at first?  Everytime it happens I swear I need glasses, but then I remember pyschology class, and I'm relieved that my eyes are not going bad after all, instead I'm just suffering from a post-adolescence immaturity disorder that causes me to closely associate certain words.

But come on.  Seriously.  The two words are distinguished by the mere absence of the tiniest of bridges between the r and the n.  Connect that bridge and you have the exact same word.

And when that word precedes the word "girls"...then don't even get me started.

hahaa

I've always thought the same thing but didn't want to say anything about it at risk of sounding immature.

Have to admit I thought it said porn also......

Glad I'm not the only one...........LOL

expected

Yeah, I was suprised to see this on Day 63, I felt for sure Nobis was gonna rear his head on Day 60.  I certainly hope we see a special Day 10, 20, 22, etc.

Countdown # 63
A little UT football trivia for those of you too young to remember this.  Tommy Nobis was drafted by both the Atlanta Falcons and the Houston Oilers.  (This was before the merger.)  He was the only player in history to receive a "call from above" telling him which team to sign with.  An astronaut, circling the earth shortly after the drafts, was asked if he had anything to say to the folks back home.  His reply was "Tell Nobis to sign with Houston."  Unfortunately, Tommy didn't listen.

I don't know why...

and I've never seen him play, but Nobis is my favorite of the historic longhorns.

I think maybe because Texas has not been much of a smashmouth team in my lifetime. Tommy brings a little "Dick Butkis" to our history.

Great Picture

I am reading "The Missing Ring" which details the 1966 Alabama team that went undefeated, but was denied the MNC. There is a nice story about how the Texas defense led by Tommy Nobis stopped Joe Namath short of the end zone and beat Alabama 21-17 during the 1965 Orange Bowl.

The best part of the story is how even three decades later at a College Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony in New York an Alabama alumnus asked Nobis if Namath had actually crossed the end zone. Nobis stopped him in mid-sentence and flatly told him no.

Making fun of Sooners is the following joke that I found on a Cal site, ("Go Bears!") and have changed to reflect the love of making fun of Sooners that is found on this site.
