Fall Weddings
A friend of mine, Fez, who hangs out with way too many Texans for being from Massachusetts, forwarded me this link, and I think it does a good job summarizing the problem with fall weddings.

I'll venture an excuse
for my upcoming fall wedding. It's in the morning. Even the reception will be done before any decent games are on (September 15th). Oh yeah, Texas is playing central florida.

Do you drink?
Or is it a dry wedding?
I guess that is one way to keep the bar tab down.

the woman's family
is strict baptist so no open bar at the wedding. I however will either be carrying a flask or instruct the groomsmen (two of which graduated from UT, the other OSU) to be prepared with some low-visibility drinks. I have no problem with drinking as my 9:15am beer with the guy who will be performing the wedding will attest to (he's a church of christ youth minister in the Houston area). Granted, we were playing golf at the time so that really doesn't count as drinking in the morning. There are no limits to time of alcohol consumption when golfing or camping.

is this your wedding?
and if it is, is "the woman" going to be your bride?
by cowboyhorn on Jun 5, 2007 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
No,
this is her wedding. Yes she will be my bride (so it will be my night). Oh yeah, they will also be my bills as she just graduated and I've been working for a year.

if circumstance dictated that I get married in
the fall (i.e. theres a baby due the 2nd week of December and you want to make it official) then theres a way to make it all work:
- Get married on a Friday evening the day before a home game.
Everyone wins. Plus, everything's cheaper on a Friday (I know from experience).

"i know from experience"
you impregnate a girl and have a shotgun wedding on a friday in austin? did you also impregnate a girl and have a shotgun wedding on a saturday in austin, just for comparison's sake? sunday?
how many illegitimate little other andrews do you have running around out there?

nah
just the "everythings cheaper on a Friday" part.
But I had enough sense to get married in June.

Good sense
I was smart enough to get married on June 5 because my wife told me that's when we were getting married. Today is the three year anniversary. Hooray for tres leches.

Thanks
I think she's just happy that I didn't move her to DC after only a year in Austin. Only crazy people move from Austin to both the Midwest and DC.

I may be crazy
but I'm also employed in a field where no one was (or is) hiring in Austin. And I would go so far as to put DC in a firm second behind Austin as far as US cities go. It's small enough that you can be familiar with most of it and big enough that you don't get bored too easily.
Won't argue on the Midwest though...

It was bad timing
I understand the lack of jobs in Austin thing. Nobody does any public finance work in Austin. It was a better job in DC, but I had an offer here. After my wife hating the two years in Madison, I didn't want to move her again.

My wedding...
I got engaged in April, and I knew it would be a big wedding, so I planned it that way so I knew it would not be until next spring till the wedding date.
My sister, on the other hand, got married during the Kansas State game. My parents physically took my cell phone away, and the only tv was at the other end of the
hotel where the reception was being held. And I had tickets to the game.
To add to this insult, the best man was a Cornsucker, and decided it would be funny to try to pick a fight with me because "mighty UT was going down".

Route 66
What can I say? I'm guilty of the fall wedding. Not just any fall day, but one of the darkest days in the modern era of Texas football, Route 66. That's right, I got married on the day UCLA mopped up DKR with our asses, 66-3.
Yes, Texas football is high up on my list of important matters, but compared to the love of my life... Sorry, but there's no comparison. While some may say I'm whipped, etc. if you find the one, it's all worth it. If your response is "No woman is worth it" then you haven't found the right woman.
Besides, the way I see it, my wedding kept me from enduring that catastrophe in person. Here's to a couple months shy of 10 years and going strong!

sorry, but
The very next weekend after Rout 66 was a bye weekend, so something went awry in the planning.
Given the result of the game, I'm sure your friends werent too pissed, but there was no way of knowing we'd leave that many turds at Memorial Stadium on that day.

fair enough, but
I was in the Southern Carribbean with my beautiful new bride. So whatever was happening back home, I really couldn't care less about it...

Allow me to retort:
How many touchdowns has your wife scored?
In all seriousness, it sounds like your priorities are correct but that doesn't mean we're all still looking for love in the wrong places.

Or maybe...
I'd say that if your wife wouldn't budge from a Fall Wedding, perhaps you didn't find the right woman?
Has [instert your favorite team] ever asked you to choose between it and the human love of your life? No, all [insert your favorite team] does is give, give, give. And this is how you repay [insert your favorite team]?
