Texas Exes Richards and Osterman Continue to Dominate
Sanya Richards has resoundingly rebounded from her recent setbacks. Her early track season was marked by disappointment and illness, and she won't be representing the U.S. in the World Championships in Osaka because of her 4th-place finish in the U.S. championships (despite her recent dominance and setting of the American 400 record in 2006, she is not the defending world champion, which would have given her an automatic berth). Despite these early setbacks, Richards has responded like a true champion and Longhorn (much like her boyfriend, Aaron Ross): she qualified for the World Championships in the 200 (where she is arguably the second fastest woman in the world behind fellow U.S. athlete Allyson Felix). Also, she is on pace to repeat as Golden League champion in the 400, which would secure her a share of the $ 1 million Golden League jackpot, with 3 victories down and 3 more to go.
Despite the uninspiring setting of Oklahoma City, Cat Osterman powered the U.S. Softball team to another World Cup victory over Japan with stifling pitching: the U.S. won 3-0, and Osterman pitched 13 strikeouts.
ESPN Article on the Softball World Cup
I would like to introduce myself: I graduated from UT just recently (the year that VY and co. won the championship), and I now live in New York. I've noticed that many of the posters here are lawyers, law students, or future law students, so I must disclose that I'm a law student about to start my 2nd year. Although I follow all UT sports, my favorites are football and track/XC. As I closely follow professional track competitions, which are, thankfully, heavily populated by Texas Exes, I hope to keep BON informed of UT's ongoing successes (for example, current Longhorn Leo Manzano recently qualified for the World Championships in the 1500, beating the highly-decorated, Kenyan-American Bernard Lagat in the process). In general, thanks to you all for the high quality of discussion and collegiality on the board - I hope to contribute to both where possible.

Excellent
Welcome to the family, and thanks for posting.
I'm a huge Cat Osterman fan, obviously, though we of course focus most of our coverage on the "big three" sports. In any case, glad you've noticed that fans of all the UT sports lurk around here.
Your updates will be most welcomed.

Yes, welcome MorningsideHorns
I think it's great that we have strong posters who keep us up to speed on all UT sports, men's and women's. Like most BONers, I focus on football and basketball, but I do appreciate all our athletes and competitions. By the way, what's with all you would-be barristers? I thought you could barely come up for air from your textbooks/dumbbells.

Thanks for the welcome.
I got a laugh out of the (regrettably accurate) dumbbell reference. As for the prevalence of barristers on BON, a serious response would point out that UT excels at sending students to graduate schools, lawyers/law students need frequent breaks from all the hard work to follow their favorite sports from college, and sports discussions help build professional relationships among both colleagues and clients. Speaking more honestly on the other hand: I spend far more time on the Rivals, ESPN, and IAAF websites than on LexisNexis or WestLaw, and I've been known to watch track meets online during class.

Welcome, Morningside
It's nice to have another track fanatic here. I thought I'd be going it alone forever.

I'm a track fanatic, but only peripherally
As most BON'ers know, my main fanaticism is focused on Longhorns Volleyball, and one of our best and brightest is a two-sports star. Destinee Hooker is our second-best Outside Hitter as well as a Big XII and NCAA Champion in the High Jump.
Actually, Destinee is a three-sports star, but schedule conflicts don't allow her to play basketball. Yet. She continues to express a desire to play roundball before her career is done at UT, but I'm not sure we'll have her around long enough for that to happen.
